Last night in Milan, we experienced an evening of meaningful discussions and connections, and I want to extend my deepest gratitude to each participants that made this possible. Reason for this was the presentation of the new book on Servitization Strategy, by Tim Baines, Ali Z. Bigdeli and Kawal Kapoor, colleagues of the #AstonBusinessSchool and friends of our Servitization Community and Interuniversity Research Center ASAP Service Management Forum.
We shared moments that were both delightful and insightful, surrounded by amazing Italian food in a captivating milanese restaurant (kudos to Osteria Grand Hotel).
Our discussions were enriched by distinguished guests, senior managers from global corporations such as Siemens, Ricoh, Baker Hughes, Omron, GF Machining Solutions, SCM Group, AngeloPo, and representatives from industrial associations such as ANIE, UCIMA, ACIMAT, AMPLAS.
Here are my key takeaways from our gathering:
👉Years of scientific research in collaboration with industrial companies have culminated in a solid understanding of the shifts towards service-centric business models. We know what, why and how.
👉 Strategy: the conversations highlighted the importance of strategy. A clear vision, committed leaders, consistent customer-centric mindset, service and digital capabilities, are necessary skills to navigate today's business landscape and tackle with the challenges of servitization.
👉 Collaboration: the need for a unified approach, particularly for smaller companies, is clear. Tailored training and support initiatives within industry associations are vital for fostering, scale-up and exploit the moves to advanced service business.
👉 Policy Support: A significant point of discussion was the role of industrial policy-makers. We claim the noticeable absence of political interlocutors in the past two decades, in which we have worked for research and education, discussing the cultural transformation and benefits from servitization for the entire society. We definitively need to work more and involve more actively the policy-makers to reach a broader consensus.
👉Future: I look forward to continuing our collaborations with early researchers, senior professors, colleagues, managers, and I ma excited of the impacts that we can achieve working together. Let's keep the conversation going and work towards a more innovative and service-oriented future.
