PrEP is an effective way to prevent new HIV infections, but better strategies are needed to get it to the people who need it most. New research from Kaiser Permanente Division of Research showed that alerting primary care physicians to patients who might be at risk for HIV before a medical appointment significantly increased in referrals for PrEP. Taking the world by storm in the 1960's, HIV is still a problem globally and here in the United States. Difficult to notice without testing, the virus stays in the body after infecting a person and results in the debilitating condition known as AIDS when treatment is not sought out. Marketing Head @ Abbott🌟💡Crafting strategies to enable healthcare providers make informed decisions for improved patient care 🌟💡
A recent pilot project by PATH, showed great acceptance for self-testing for HIV . People found self-tests easy to use and interpret, which can make it especially useful for those who have not tested in the past. Supported by the Government, in select clinics and medical centres, this could be an encouraging move to promote testing. It gives practitioners more ways to screen high-risk groups, too. Beyond this, there is a new standard in point-of-care testing with 4th generation rapid tests. We have seen that these kits are particularly effective in smaller towns and villages, as this test can detect infection with a simple finger prick, giving results within 15-20 mins. It also helps detect more acute infections compared to previous tests. #4thgenerationtesting, #hiv #hivtesting #hivaids Abbott Abbott | Diagnostics #worldaidsday https://lnkd.in/d_nqSgB5

Did you know that since 1981, HIV/AIDS has infected over 85 million people worldwide, making it one of the world's most serious health challenges? Thanks to better education, treatment and testing, the U.S. has decreased annual infection rates by more than two-thirds. A huge step in the right direction but the work isn't over yet! In 2019, the operational plan, Ending the HIV Epidemic in the U.S. (EHE), was launched to help achieve a 90% reduction of new HIV infections in America by 2030. The EHE plan has four pillars of action to help achieve this goal: 👉 Diagnose 👉 Treat 👉 Prevent 👉 Respond Telehealth is a major component of this plan and is being implemented in multiple ways in each of these strategic pillars. Learn more about how telehealth has been utilized to support HIV prevention and care management -- https://lnkd.in/gASh_UUQ #hiv #aids #healthcare #telehealth #hivprevention #telemedicine

1 December is a world AIDs day HIV is a preventable condition,it can be avoided by applying different measures such as using condoms during intercourse, undergoing HIV and STI testing, male undergoing circumcision, and promoting reduction services for drug users. Doctors may promote medications and medical tools, such as antiretroviral drugs (ARVs), oral PrEP, dapivirine vaginal rings, and injectable long-acting drugs , to prevent HIV transmission. ARVs can also be used to prevent HIV transmission from mothers to their children. Individuals on ART with undetectable virus levels won't transmit HIV to their partners. Accessing testing and ART plays a crucial role in HIV prevention. Treatment for HIV involves using antiretroviral drugs that inhibit virus replication but they don't cure the infection. ART enhances the immune system, enabling individuals to combat other infections. It requires lifelong daily intake, reducing virus levels and allowing for a healthy life without symptoms. Pregnant HIV-positive women should promptly access and use ART to safeguard their health and prevent transmission to their fetus or through breastfeeding. Antiretroviral drugs administered to non-HIV individuals can prevent the disease through pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) or post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) when the risk of exposure is high. Advanced HIV disease remains a persistent issue, and the WHO supports countries in implementing specialized care to diminish illness and mortality. #HIV #aidsawareness #ICW #WHO

Children surpass a year of HIV remission after treatment pause . Four children have remained free of detectable HIV for more than one year after their antiretroviral therapy (ART) was paused to see if they could achieve HIV remission, according to new research. The children, who acquired HIV before birth, were enrolled in a clinical trial in which an ART regimen was started within 48 hours of birth and then closely monitored for drug safety and HIV viral suppression. The outcomes reported today follow planned ART interruptions once the children met predefined virological and immunological criteria. #ScienceDailynews #InnovativeResearch #NextGenScience #ExploringFrontiers
