This projection highlights the need for increased efforts to address our housing crisis. if you're interested in the priorities of the party with the most councillors on Bristol City Council, Adam Postans' report (in comments) is a useful primer on Bristol Green Party's commitments. The party's ambitions for housing below confirm measures trailed before the election campaign. It's an interesting mix that's generated debate on 'the other site.' Focusing on the specific merits of rent controls or 'high rise versus affordability' misses the broader point: we have a big housing problem in #Bristol, which a single measure won't solve. As affordability levels pass crisis point, it's welcome to see a focus on new homes and bringing empty homes back into use. Both present challenges, and there are always trade offs. But we urgently need a grown up conversation about how we tackle this sustainably, with the resources available. Opposing sides need to stop shouting at each other first. To developers, I'd suggest you'll need to understand the new priorities and the change that's coming. And you'll need to tell your stories clearly and engage openly. I'd love to chat with anyone who'd like to understand how human communications help can solutions the city desparately needs. Congratulations once again to all those who were elected. Snipers will snipe (and some already are). But there are many more people who want you to succeed and stand ready to help where we can.

We’re in Ottawa at CMHC’s National Housing Conference 2024! Excited to connect with decision-makers and partners from across Canada to discuss how the Low-end of Market Rental (LEMR) Housing Monitor can address gaps in our understanding of rental housing trends, identify potential hotspots of housing precarity, provide evidence that supports data-informed policy alternatives and equip decision-makers with the best information to make data-driven decisions. #NHC24 Explore the tool: https://lemr.ca/

Please find our latest summary and insights on NSW housing reforms.
The NSW Government has committed to delivering 75,000 dwellings per annum over 5 years. A lofty but necessary ambition. But how will we achieve this goal? Will the Federal Government’s financial incentive measures move the dial? Will the State’s multi-levered policy approach suffice? We applaud the NSW Government's initial efforts to deliver a diverse range of housing types. But is this multi-layered reform just creating a tangled web of housing policy? We have some thoughts. Some 18-months ago, Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities announced that the #accessibility standard for all #NewHomes would be raised to meet the 'Accessible and adaptable' dwellings standard - known as M4(2). Yesterday, in UK Parliament, Lord Best raised the crucial question to the UK Government regarding when they planned to implement the new M4(2) - accessible and adaptable dwellings - standard. He highlighted a concerning statistic, stating: "Since the initial announcement, 220,000 properties have been built that do not accord with the new standards, and every month we leave this, another 13,000 are built that do not accord to the new standards." What are your thoughts on Baroness Penn's remarks and overall progress towards #AccessibleHousing?
