#Art, #advocacy, and #justice. It’s all right here in this powerful and insightful story about art as an impetus and strategy for shifting narratives about mass incarceration. Engage R+D Ford Foundation #changemakers
We are proud to mark the culmination of the Art for Justice Fund, a transformative journey intertwining art and advocacy to reshape narratives and transform the carceral system. As we reflect on our partnership and the Fund’s bold strides, inspired by Helena Huang's reflection, we’re excited to launch a series that delves into lessons from our evaluation of this unique, time-limited effort. Stay tuned as we explore the impactful stories and strategies that have emerged, and join us in this reflection on the power of arts and advocacy in service of justice. https://lnkd.in/euqU5xjh #ArtForJustice #SocialImpact #CreativeAdvocacy #ChangeMakers

A bit of a late post, but I have to shout out the 30+ folks who attended our Big Reveal Event at the Deaconess Center for Child Well-Being! In case you missed it - Transform 314 implemented a campaign from August - October 2023 to help shape our 2024 advocacy priorities. We obtained feedback through surveys and Community Conversations. While we were open to hearing from ALL St. Louisans, we were intentionally working to engage a group that historically is not engaged in collective advocacy efforts - Black St. Louisans under the age of 45. 66% of the 488 participants that completed the survey identified as Black, with a majority of participants identifying as being under the age of 45 The top 5 issues Black participants expressed they were willing to advocate for were: #5: Increasing input on how money is spent in your community #4: Improving street safety #3: Improving access to quality and affordable food #2: Improving access to healthy and affordable housing AND addressing vacancy #1: Improving streets, sidewalks, lighting, etc. So...what's next? In 2024, Transform 314 will be advocating for improving the infrastructure in the City of St. Louis. We will work on this effort monthly at our Community Meetups, with the first one on Wednesday, Jan. 10th at 6pm at High Low (3301 Washington Ave - 63103). 🌟 Community at the Heart: Why Giving Back Matters to Us 🌟 🤝 At Gingras, Thomsen & Wachs, our commitment extends beyond the courtroom – it's deeply rooted in the communities we serve. We believe that a strong community is the foundation of a just society, and giving back is not just our responsibility, it's our passion. 🌱 Every community we're a part of is vital to us. Whether it's Eau Claire, Madison, Milwaukee, or Waukesha, we see the strength, resilience, and spirit in each place. We're more than just legal advocates; we're neighbors, friends, and partners in building a better future for all. 💕 Giving back is our way of saying thank you. It's about supporting local initiatives, engaging in community events, and helping those in need. We don't just practice law here; we live here, we care here, and we make a difference here. 💡 Why do we give back? Because our communities are the very backbone of our practice. They inspire us, motivate us, and remind us of the impact we can make. At GTW, we're dedicated to not just representing the community but being an active, contributing part of it. 🌈 Together, we can create stronger, more just communities. #CommunityFirst #GTWGivesBack #HeartOfTheCommunity

Analyst, Social Impact at EVO Advisors | Surveying Trends in Corporate and Traditional Philanthropy & Corporate Social Responsibility | Nonprofit Advocacy | RPCV
Front page of the The Washington Post this morning: "Any organization that provides a palpable benefit to a person based on race, national origin or sex now runs a potential legal risk" - Kenji Yoshino This comes as no surprise as it follows the very recent news of the blocking of grants from the Fearless Fund. Though lawsuits to dismantle DEI initiatives have been ongoing since 2021, the Supreme Court ruling from last year has put things into high gear. I wonder if President Biden will mention anything tonite in the debate related to the #AmericanRescuePlanAct. Takeaway: Conservative groups are great at funding nonprofits that then, in turn, are providing funding for these cases; #DAFs are implicated here as well. We've got to become more strategic in our funding to counter these lawsuits and the way we deploy our philanthropic capital is of primary importance. Every stakeholder can play an important role; individual donors, c3s, c4s, and corporations that have relationships (and leverage) with municipal and political contacts in high places. Backing away from #DEI objectives because of fear of litigation is protectionist, not courageous. Organizations reveal their commitment by the stance they're taking. https://lnkd.in/eFgwEGdT #philanthropy #csr #socialimpact
