🔙 Looking back on last week's the #AWSSummit Berlin was simply AWSome! 😊 Visitors discovered how the cloud is accelerating innovation for businesses of all sizes. Developers, Engineers and C-level expanded their horizons with talks and workshops from experts. ✨ The buzz was palpable as visitors explored the latest advancements in generative AI, developer tooling, and foundational infrastructure 🤖. They learned how to build quickly with confidence, differentiate their business through data, and deploy applications with availability, elasticity, cost, sustainability, and performance in mind. Here are some highlights in case you missed it: 🌟 Over 10,000 attendees and more than 150 sessions packed into 2 days 🎡 We had our own cloud ferris wheel to have a fun alternative for 1:1 meetings ☁️ €7.8 billion investment for the AWS European Sovereign Cloud (ESC) - a clear commitment to Europe's digital sovereignty. The first AWS Region will be available by 2025 in Brandenburg, supporting 2,800+ full-time jobs. 🏰 Generative AI was a hot topic, with sessions that likened AI to a trusty friend and compared AI agents to wise owls. 🔥 It was great to see my old customer Vitesco Technologies with Markus Korn, Daniel Dias and David Lichtenwalter take the stage and share their cloud transformation journey with the #AWSSummit audience. 🤝 I had a blast connecting with colleagues, partners and customers. 😄

I am happy to share that I have been at AWS for 3 and a half years 🥳🎉 OK, maybe not the biggest deal 😂 But one thing that I have taken away from this year is how the leadership principle "Think Big" has played such a big part at AWS. Just thinking about the enormous amount of innovation we have seen so far in 2023 with the development of Generative AI, the pace at AWS has simply been incredible 🤯 In preparing for AWS re:Invent next week, I went back through key announcements on the AWS What's New blog, here's some of the highlights: 🚀 Launched two new regions (Melbourne and Tel Aviv), and we announced a new region coming to Malaysia. 🚀 Announced AWS European Sovereign Cloud to help customers in Europe meet regulatory data residency and operational requirements that is fully separate and independent of other AWS Regions. 🚀 Delivering an enhanced developer experience with new docs site for AWS Amplify, and Amazon CodeWhisperer, AWS Application Composer, and Amazon CodeCatalyst becoming generally available. 🚀 Diving deep into industry solutions with the general release of AWS Supply Chain that was announced at last year's re:Invent and AWS HealthScribe using AI to improve patient-clinician conversations (in preview). 🚀 Accelerating startup success with the industry specific accelerator programs for Space, GovTech, Climate Tech Accelerator, Sustainable Cities, Cybersecurity, and the general purpose Build Accelerator. 🚀 And the biggest news this year for AWS is our release of Amazon Bedrock for building Generative AI applications, our Titan foundation models, and AWS Inferentia2 chips powering the best price performance instances for AI. I am super excited for what is coming up for AWS re:Invent 2023 with some of the biggest product announcements of the year! #AWS #startups #innovation #AWSreInvent reInvent 2023

Last week was quite eventful .... 3 vendor events in town ;) Amazon Web Services (AWS) celebrated its 10th anniversary of the AWS Summit in Singapore. Though I couldn't attend the event in person (I was deployed with SAFVC), I did manage to catch the keynotes on Livestream. - AWS continues to invest heavily in Singapore, committing another $12 billion over the next 5 years on top of the $11.5 billion already invested. This shows AWS's long-term commitment to Singapore. - In 2024, AWS launched SEA-LION, Southeast Asia's first multilingual large language model (for Southeast Asian languages and cultures), in partnership with AI Singapore (AISG). - The Singapore government is partnering with AWS to develop AI talent and use cases, such as automating data analysis, to enhance productivity in areas like policymaking. - Organizations are seeing significant benefits from generative AI solutions like improved work productivity, faster innovation, and enhanced customer experiences. - One example is the Ministry of Manpower’s: Leveraging Generative AI via the Analytics.Gov platform, public officers improved their ability to obtain insights from voluminous emails and feedback in 50% less time. - Shared use cases on how Generative AI is transforming industries like pharmaceuticals, travel, and media/entertainment through applications like protein structure generation, personalized travel recommendations, and image/video creation. - Tools like #AmazonBedrock and #AWSservices are making #GenerativeAI more accessible and easier to build with for enterprises across industries. It was great hearing from Dyson and GovTech Singapore about how they use AWS cloud technology extensively and are transforming the way they operate. Just wrapped up the incredible AWS Tech Summit in London yesterday, and it was a whirlwind of innovation and inspiration. Here are some of the key takeaways that resonated with me: 1. Generative AI Takes Center Stage: Generative AI is no longer a "maybe someday" technology. AWS is clearly positioning itself as a leader in this space, showcasing its potential to revolutionize industries like marketing, finance, and content creation. The focus on partnerships, like the one with Accenture, hints at exciting new use cases for big enterprises. 2. Data Platforms Hold the Key to Business Transformation: Unlocking the power of data is critical for success in today's digital landscape. The summit emphasized the importance of secure and efficient data management through robust data platforms. This focus aligns perfectly with the growing need for data-driven decision making. 3. The Cloud Journey Continues: There's still immense potential for cloud adoption! Despite the significant growth, statistics suggest only 10% of workloads are currently in the cloud. This highlights a massive opportunity for businesses to migrate and leverage the scalability and agility that cloud platforms offer. 4. The Rise of the Cloud-Enabled Contact Center: Customer experience is paramount, and Amazon Connect is proving to be a game-changer. The summit showcased how organizations are using this omnichannel solution to streamline operations, personalize interactions, and ultimately, delight their customers. 5. A Focus on Partnership and Community: The energy at the summit was electric! It was clear that AWS prioritizes fostering a strong community around cloud computing. The numerous partners present, along with the insightful customer success stories, highlighted the collaborative spirit that's driving innovation in the cloud space. #AWS #AWSSummitLondon #CloudComputing #GenerativeAI #DataManagement

☁️ Amazon Web Services (AWS) churns out new products at a dizzying pace, and it takes a lot of effort just to keep up with the news and try out the new products. But as of late, OpenAI and Microsoft Azure have caused ripple effects throughout the industry, leaving folks wondering what AWS are going to do about it. Luckily, at the Baloise CH Mobility Unit, we're partnering with both so while it's double the effort to keep up to date, but it's been fantastic to see how these industry leaders compete for the benefit of the ecosystem. As I like to get my hands dirty with the latest technologies, I've found AWS Immersion Days very useful. It's a compact format so doesn't take a whole day, but as it's well-prepared, you can cover quite a large set of sub-topics and technologies in the session. Classroom style, but going at your own pace, so if you run into problems, the AWS folks can help you out. ➡️ This time I attended the #GenAI Immersion Day and made a video about it, with a few shots from around Helsinki too! The day covered obviously various AWS services, but the main focus being their entirely new Generative AI offering called Bedrock, along with Foundation Models, LangChain, Streamlit, and more - can't wait to put these into practice with the portfolio startups. And let's see how this works in Linkedin! #AWS #Azure #GenerativeAI #GenAI #DataScience #ImmersionDay #LLama2 #Claude2 #Streamlit #Bedrock #LangChain

This interesting move by Microsoft should be seen on a continuum of armament in the AI wars with China, and also generally as a step in Economic decoupling from China. Previously, Microsoft had already announced a huge investment in the United Arab Emirates. And at the end of 2023, the Chinese government issued guidelines to divest US microprocessors and US software and their laptops, desktops and servers. China no longer wants Microsoft, Intel and others at home. And the Americans no longer want to give know-how to China. Still, the world's digital revolution is heavily dependent on Taiwanese chip production.
