Great morning at the “Defence Spqce” conference. Really interesting sessions on delivering the National Space Strategy, Innovation and Collaboration with industry, and diversity in the space workforce. Some of my key takeaways: 👩💼Importance of the “Front door” for industry to engage government 🛰 The UK needs highly assured capabilities that we have sovereign control over 🚀 There are wider economic and space ecosystem benefits of UK launch capability 📈 We need a consistent approach to space. China is capable of long-term thinking. 🇺🇸 Trip, Part Two - At her Keynote address at Washington Space Business Roundtable, Director Aarti Holla-Maini addressed business leaderships on: 🇺🇳 UNOOSA’s mandate. 🌍 The need to increase COPUOS’ membership beyond 102 Member States – more Member States need to be involved in developing the global governance of space, rather than simply endorsing COPUOS’ reports at the level of 193 Member States at the UN General Assembly each year. ♻️🌌 UNOOSA’s leadership in supporting all countries to implement the Guidelines for the Long-Term Sustainability of Outer Space. 🌐Advance global coordination for improved Space Situational Awareness and encourage more data sharing. 🛰📡 How UNOOSA will lead the global campaign to protect 8 GHz X-band frequencies, which are used for earth observation, space science & military satcoms but are under threat by terrestrial mobile. UNOOSA will continue to create opportunities to convene industry via a structured dialogue. #Washington

🇬🇧 On January 24, at the European Space Conference, Rosa Ruiloba (VP Business Development) & Marc Pilorget (Chief of Staff) shared their expertise during the panels titled "Space Data Enabling Applications across Sectors" and "Navigating the Increasing Interlinks between Space and Defence." 🛰 The first session underscored the essential role that policy guidance plays in balancing supply and demand, driving growth and innovation across the entire value chain, from the origin to the end-user. Following this, the second discussion concentrated on the fusion of the space and defense sectors, emphasizing the practical application of Space Domain Awareness capabilities throughout Europe. 🚀 Our white paper is now published! I have attached the white paper here if you would like to have a read. Last night was the Astra Program Showcase, where three teams presented their 2024 white papers. Our white paper, titled 'Strengthening Australia's Critical Space Infrastructure: Strategies for growth and resilience.', directed 8 recommendations to key industry bodies for their consideration, including Australian Space Agency, Australian Space Diversity Alliance, Australian Centre for Space Governance, iLAuNCH Trailblazer, Defence Australia, and the Australian Government. We recently hosted the first ever summit for our Strategic Policy Fellows at the Pentagon. These fellows represent the United States Air Force and United States Space Force across the Executive branch of government working on a range of prolific matters. This summit allowed the fellows to share their experience and missions of their respective agencies, what they’re working on, and they’re oberservations about DAF equities. We also had a chance to re-baseline everyone’s strategic understanding courtesy of our partners at CSAF Strategic Studies Group, Air Force Futures, and Space Force Strategic Initiatives Group.
