Last month I presented the paper "Towards a Machine Learning-Based Approach to Predict Space Object Density Distributions" at SciTech 2024 in Orlando. In collaboration with MIT-ARCLab and San Diego State University, we tried deep learning models to address the growing congestion in Low Earth Orbit (LEO) due to the increasing number of Anthropogenic Space Objects (ASOs). Our model, an extension of the MIT Orbital Capacity Tool (MOCAT), leverages hundreds of simulations to train a deep learning network that forecasts object distributions as a pure seq2seq model, using architectures employed in computer vision. By constructing and deploying six more JWSTs, we can significantly enhance our observational capabilities. This network of telescopes will provide comprehensive coverage of the universe, enabling continuous monitoring of space conditions and potential threats, such as asteroids or other celestial bodies that could impact Earth and the Arks communities. 2. Redundancy and Reliability: Having multiple telescopes ensures redundancy, which is critical for maintaining continuous data collection and analysis. If one telescope encounters technical issues or requires maintenance, the others can continue to operate, ensuring there is no disruption in our ability to monitor space and gather vital information. This redundancy increases the reliability of our space observation efforts, which is essential for the long-term success of the Arks of America project. 3. Detailed Climate and Environmental Monitoring: The JWSTs will be instrumental in monitoring Earth's climate and environmental changes. By providing detailed and accurate data on atmospheric conditions, ocean temperatures, and other environmental factors, these telescopes will help us understand and predict climate patterns. This information is crucial for planning and maintaining the self-sustaining ecosystems of the Arks communities, ensuring they can adapt to changing environmental conditions. 4. Advanced Research and Development: The telescopes will facilitate cutting-edge research in astrophysics, planetary science, and cosmology. This research will contribute to the development of new technologies and solutions that can be applied to the Arks of America project. For instance, advancements in renewable energy, waste management, and sustainable agriculture can be driven by insights gained from space research. These technologies will be integrated into the Arks communities, making them more resilient and efficient. 5. Planetary scientists, would you use a server with Terabytes of data about your favorite planetary body if it had 1 hour latency for connections? What if you had the only few images in hand, and knew there were 10,000,000 more in that database? I've always wondered when we'll start flying servers to deep space, because if you start storing it on-site, you can store 1000s of times more of it (compared to what you can downlink back to earth).
