Bravery. Openness. Empathy. Grit. Accountability. Innovation. These were the themes of the Special Olympics Leadership Accademy. Yesterday I left the world of organizations and companies and entered the world of a movement. It was an inspiring and thought provoking session around what a leadership mindset is all about and when why and how to make conscious changes to your unconscious thinking to not just be a better leader, but make a bigger difference in all aspects of your life. Highlights: 📦The program was held at The Watergate (yes, the OG of all the “gates”) with an open vault as a reminder of how important it is to open access to your inner thoughts instead of locking it away (bravery). 📦That one key to getting better results is to “Ask for More.” That my in the box goal will give me in the box results, so to get innovative results, you must ask for the seemingly impossible (innovation) 📦that we are stronger and smarter together. I had the chance to deliver alongside Peter Brent from Blanchard and was so impressed with his open supportive and wise presence. (Openness) 📦finally the importance of radical inclusion. The whole ethos of the Special Olympics Movement is around acceptance, inclusion, opportunity and growth. The connection and empathy that the participants gave to each other was palpable in the room. We look forward to continued support and involvement in the movement as we certify internal trainers in the B❒X methodology. #whatisyourbox #buildabetterbox

Bridge Africa Summit: A New African Leadership-Engage Today’s discussions were meant to achieve engagement in different domains and aimed to benefit people from experiences in public speaking, relationships, and also technical skills such as technology and language skills. We debuted with leadership circles, followed by Co-designing Bridge Africa, Leadership Workshop Sessions, Entrepreneurial program, African Leaders Community: Validation of action plan and next steps, and ended with Leadership circles. The leadership workshop sessions offered accounts to the facilitators and peers to share theirs and how to use their networks to gain access to funders and influence decision-makers in different formats. Over 150 young leaders from 25 countries around the continent were brought together to think about their needs as leaders, to develop, and form their network. The objective of today’s networking is to build up a list of abilities and needs to create strategic plans through collective intelligence that include specific activities like mentorship programs, leadership training, knowledge exchange, research, and thought leadership. These activities resulted in developing programs whose first version will be implemented in the upcoming summits and will become the pillars of the Bridge Africa Network. Last month, participants in Action for Children’s reciprocal mentoring pilot got together in our London office for a memorable celebration and learning event, marking the successful conclusion of the programme. Launched in September last year, this pioneering pilot matched 12 staff members from Black, Asian, or Minority Ethnic backgrounds with our Executive and Senior Leadership Teams. Through this unique co-learning relationship, participants had the chance to mentor and be mentored by one another, fostering mutual growth and understanding. The recent event provided a wonderful opportunity for everyone involved to meet face-to-face and celebrate their achievements, whilst reflecting on the invaluable lessons learned throughout this journey.
