❓ Question: What does inclusion "look like" to you? ❓ Recent events at the Olympics and in UK have got me thinking about what inclusion really means and "looks like" 👀 . In my world and yours, it is a word banded about everyday in most things we do. For me the Refugee Olympic Team symbolises everything that is great about inclusion 💪 . A group of athletes dispossessed and without a country to formally call home, let alone a country to compete for. The Olympics have created the opportunity for these athletes to compete and we are all seeing the benefit. Cindy Ngamba 🥇 is a great example of the what inclusion and creating a sense of belonging can achieve 👏 . She has lived in the UK since the age of 11 and due to her immigration paperwork being lost she cannot claim UK citizenship. At the age of 18 she came out as gay 🌈 and does not want to return to Cameroon where homosexuality is illegal 😠 . However, putting all of this aside, she trains with GB Boxing and has won British National Amateur Championships in three different weight categories. She has been given an opportunity to compete, and wow, can she compete! ❓ As HR professionals what obstacles can we remove to create opportunities for people to flourish? ❓ How can we create a sense of belonging to drive the inclusion that we so often talk about, especially for those in the most adverse situations? ❓ What can we do in our sphere of influence to make things better for others that in turn make our businesses and maybe in the world a better place? 😠 I think this is even more important to consider against the backdrop of violence and hate that has reared its ugly head in the UK over the past week #notinmyname #inclusion #refugeeolympicteam #proudhr

⚽️Although I am not particularly a follower of Football games, I did watch the 🇪🇸Spain - France 🇫🇷match yesterday and of course I was happy that my country won. Howe er, I couldn't help but reflect on a few things, since one remains a full time interculturalist and passionate about #diversity. Some of the most remarkable footballers in the Spanish national team today, such as Ansu Fati (born in Guinea-Bissau), Adama Traoré (of Malian descent), Eric García (with roots in Catalonia and Argentina), and of course the Star of yesterdays Match Lamine Yamal (of Moroccan and Equatorial Guinean descent), come from migrant backgrounds. This shows the strength of a #multicultural #society and reminds us of the immense #value diversity brings to all aspects of life, including sports. However, since we continue to hear critiques against multiculturalism, it’s important to recognize that these critiques often stem from a deeper issue: socio-economic disparity. Racism and xenophobia are frequently directed not just at migrants, but particularly at those from less privileged backgrounds. 🕉️ The triumphs of Ansu Fati, Adama Traoré, Eric García, and Lamine Yamal highlight the potential that can be unlocked when we support and #embrace diverse communities, rather than marginalize them.
