Our #CHEST2023 abstract unveils groundbreaking insights from our device feasibility study, where we harnessed the power of our RESP Biosensor to explore the link between respiratory sounds and pulmonary health in a patient with COPD. Our findings suggest that monitoring the increasing frequency of abnormal lung sounds in the post-acute phase can predict clinical deterioration, offering hope for more effective COPD management and early intervention. The study also highlights the value of outpatient data as a baseline for assessing early worsening and the stability of abnormal respiratory sounds over time as an independent biomarker for guiding clinical decisions, irrespective of vital signs or oxygen requirements. Today we recognize the estimated 400 million people globally living with a rare disease. We know there is much work ahead to address unmet medical needs of these patients and that means securing a timely diagnosis, effectively treating their symptoms, but also improving their lives as a whole. So important that innovations emerge to help people with rare diseases live better, enabling greater autonomy and more quality time with the people they love, doing activities that bring them joy.   Many patients with rare, chronic and complex diseases such as primary immunodeficiencies depend on plasma-derived therapies, requiring frequent and life-long treatment. With therapeutic advances such as subcutaneous immunoglobulin treatment, those patients now have the option to self-administer at home, which can already contribute substantially to improving their lives. We need to continue investing as an industry to shorten infusion time and ease overall burden of IG administration, whilst developing more holistic digital solutions that help patients better manage their disease and treatment.   This #RareDiseaseDay, it’s important for the healthcare ecosystem to consider the whole patient, focusing both on transformative therapies to change the treatment paradigm for the future, but also meeting patients where they are today with innovations to improve their treatment experience.   #RareDiseaseDay #Plasma #PlasmaDerivedTherapies #Innovation 

I recently shared with you that COPD is the third leading cause of death worldwide.   While that’s of course still true, I’m so encouraged to see the clinical community coming together to make progress and address this startling statistic. Leading experts Prof. Frederik Trinkmann and Prof. Chris Gale recently authored a piece in BMJ advocating for proactive and timely interventions to address cardiopulmonary risk and prevent exacerbations.   The article highlights how COPD patients face higher risks of both lung and heart events, and that this elevated cardiopulmonary risk can persist for up to a year following an exacerbation.   It’s clear that more proactive and preventative COPD care is urgently needed.
