Calculating LCOH involves factors such as equipment depreciation, energy input, efficiency losses, and operational lifespan. Here is a simple formula to calculate the approximate LCOH: LCOH = (Investment + Maintenance + Operational - Revenue) divided by the Hydrogen output By evaluating the LCOH, companies can make informed decisions, strategize investments, and determine the feasibility of incorporating green hydrogen technology. The future cost competitiveness of green hydrogen will also depend on the interplay between end use and proximity of production, which in turn informs the transportation and storage costs associated with a given application.” Soon our third poll will be live. Production of hydrogen as a fuel is a rapidly growing industry, it's production is unique in that it can be produced from fossil fuels or hydrocarbon gasses; appeasing existing infrastructure, or from plain old water through electrolysis, opening a completely renewable opportunity. 'Black' or 'brown' hydrogen is derived directly from fossil fuels, and 'grey' hydrogen from mined gasses. Both methods still have a significant by-product of carbon dioxide. It starts to get interesting when we talk about 'blue' hydrogen, though, still derived predominantly from natural gas, the carbon dioxide produced is stored underground through this process. 'Green' hydrogen is produced by separating the H2O molecule into hydrogen and oxygen through electrolysis. This process is powered exclusively by a form of renewable energy (wind/solar etc.) A particular interesting area of progress for me given my experience in industrial gasses and now the electrotechnology sector. Here lies an opportunity that crosses from the old world into the new, capable of using existing infrastructure and driving innovation throughout production, storage, distribution and final use.
