Lion Energy wins approval for Brisbane green hydrogen project Oil and gas developer Lion Energy has obtained development approval from the Queensland State Assessment and Referral Agency for its hydrogen generation and refuelling hub in the Port of Brisbane. The government’s approval represents a key milestone for the project, which will now proceed to the construction phase. Lion understands that only a handful of green hydrogen projects have already received State approval to date, according to a statement. Lion’s Executive Chairman Tom Soulsby said: “The approval represents the first of its kind for an integrated green hydrogen generation and distribution facility in Brisbane, and, arguably, the first of its kind in a major capital city in Australia. “The location at PoB is highly strategic due to its proximity to the majority of Brisbane 70+ bus depots, and also the significant heavy vehicle traffic to and from the Port. #manufacturing #manufacturingnews #renewables #hydrogen @LionEnergyASX Lion Energy https://lnkd.in/gBctFc5t

Fossil fuels currently still supply some 80% of the world’s energy needs. We are on the path to electrifying heat, transportation and some industrial applications while we increase renewables share in our electricity mix. But there are still crucial sectors that are hard to efficiently electrify (e.g., long-haul transportation, steel, fertilizers among others). Hydrogen and its derivatives offer an interesting alternative to meet those needs. Electrolysis powered by renewables offers a zero-carbon route to hydrogen. Proven partners such as GE Vernova can offer solutions to address power quality and improve efficiency as electrolyzers scale. Most recent example: GE Vernova’s power conversion technology provides Next Hydrogen water electrolyzers with direct current (DC) power sourced from renewable energy. GE Vernova’s Power Conversion will integrate DC power supplies along with power quality such as synchronous condensers, energy storage, motors and drives for compression and water, and controls with Energy Management (EMS). Mitsubishi Power has delivered the first shipment of major equipment for its Hydaptive integrated hydrogen production plant forming part of the Advanced Clean Energy Storage Hub (ACES Delta Hub) in Delta, Utah. The ACES Delta Hub, a joint project led by Mitsubishi Power Americas and Chevron U.S.A.
