After months of discussions, focus groups, and retreats, SVCN is proud to announce our updated mission statement, new Strategic Framework, and Strategic Priorities for FY24. SVCN was founded in 1996 as a coalition of nonprofits working to address the root causes of the problems and needs of county residents, by strengthening nonprofit organizations and ensuring that they had a seat at planning and policy-making tables. Rooted in this history, SVCN has turned ever more of its attention, as an organization and an alliance of nonprofits, to systemic inequities. After a rigorous application and selection process, Carpe Diem Arts has been successfully chosen to be a partner organization of Spur Local, formerly known as Catalogue for Philanthropy. Spur Local says, "All nonprofit partners are chosen by residents who live or work in the Greater Washington region. As part of our annual review process, these 170+ volunteers look beyond the traditional metrics of evaluation and address questions that people don’t always think to ask or have the time to assess. What need is a nonprofit meeting? Are its finances sound? What impact does it make on our local communities, and how does it involve communities in their work? Through this democratic decision-making process, we then determine the critical local nonprofits that join our network, and enter a four-year partnership with us."
