PwC Asia Pacific Vice Chairman, Markets | PwC Global Inclusion & Diversity Council member | Former Territory Senior Partner, PwC Malaysia/Vietnam

Every year at the end of June, the world of PwC pays tribute to retiring partners and welcomes new admits across our network of firms, and it is no different for us in Malaysia. Last night we celebrated the outstanding career of Faiz Azmi, Executive Chairman of PwC Malaysia who retires at the end of June after 30 years in the firm, 27 of which has been as partner. It was a particularly poignant evening for me given the length of time I've known Faiz. We met initially when we were both training in London in the early 90s, and our paths crossed again when we both returned home to Malaysia and worked with PW/PwC in the Financial Services group initially. Over the years, I've had the privilege of working with Faiz, and especially so from 2012 to 2020 when I was the Territory Senior Partner and he became the Executive Chairman. Faiz's contributions to the firm over the years has truly been immense, working with a myriad of clients and doing more than his fair share for nation building. His intellect, agility and insatiable desire to reinvent himself has never ceased to amaze me! So to my partner, comrade and friend, Faiz, here's wishing you the very best in your retirement and in whatever you choose to do in the next phase of your life. It's been a pleasure and honour to work with you, and thank you for your partnership and friendship! P.S. I will be joining you in the not too distant future in the retirees' club 😀 PwC Malaysia PwC Vietnam

Dear Sri, thank you for your kind words and for reminding me about our journey in the firm together. Many people in PwC didn’t know we were in the same firm together in the UK or that we were members of the Malaysian Accountants Dinners in London. We also support the same football club and both our sons are friends from school. Your son, like mine, is mad about cars, like their dads. We even accidently invested in the same project in Penang. I enjoyed our time together both in Financial Services and also being in the leadership circle, moving the firm ever forward. However, any success I may have had, was very much a team effort. Ideas are cheap, the trick is getting it implemented and done. And getting the firm to do that was one of your strengths. Thank you for all your support, friendship and trust in me over the years. You have shown by example how a leader should be and done it with the charm and style that only you can pull off. And believe it not, there were times I asked myself, what would Sri do in this situation, when faced with a problem. As I sign off, I will certainly cherish the many memories of our time together in PwC. Good luck and I look forward to you joining us in the Alumni group in due course.
