A thoroughly enjoyable and productive past week spent with PwC colleagues in #NewZealand. It was a pleasure to engage with partners and teams in both Auckland and Wellington, talking about issues of the day and how we can better leverage the Network and region to serve clients. A big feature of the week was being part of the Asia Pacific Government and Public Services (G&PS) meeting hosted by PwC New Zealand in the centre of government in Wellington, with insightful sharing sessions by various government officials and CEOs, and hearing from global and regional colleagues. A key priority for us in Asia Pacific currently is to drive harder, the industry and sector agenda, and these events go a huge way in bringing that to life. It was not all work though - a personal highlight in Wellington was the tour we were given of the famous Parliament buildings aka "Beehive" and pretending to be a politician for the day in the Select Committee room! Thank you NZ leaders Andrew Holmes Carl Blanchard Jeroen Bouman - for the bonhomie, fantastic hospitality, and the outstanding programme and line-up of speakers at the G&PS meeting, and to Asia Pacific G&PS Leader Tristan Hockley plus Gareth Parry Richard Street Siew Ee Sim and team NZ for making it all happen. A big thank you too to our Global G&PS leader Agnieszka Gajewska for being part of this event and for flying across the world to render your support. Poignant day today - exactly 30 years ago today, I started my journey with PwC (then Price Waterhouse). The firm has since been an integral part of my life (and that of my family) and what a ride it has been! Not quite ready to hang up my boots yet with some unfinished business to complete, but using a sports parlance, clearly moving into added time in my career. Looking forward to the next couple of years of working with my colleagues across the Asia Pacific region and beyond, and in my home base in PwC Malaysia, and supporting the continued growth of the firm. #PwC #AsiaPacific

The second part of work travels last week brought me to Shenzhen, China where my team and I hosted the inaugural Asia Pacific Lead Client Partner (LCP) Programme, a bespoked upskilling session for PwC partners from across the region who are responsible for key client accounts in their respective territories. The 2-day programme started with an external economist providing his take on the state of the world economy and the region, including geopolitical considerations, before getting into deep dive masterclasses conducted by 2 of our experienced LCPs, Angelo Estrera and Loretta Fong, on how to better serve their clients to navigate the complex world they face today. Partners also heard viewpoints from senior leaders Thomas Leung, David Brown Wilson WY Chow and James 立钧 Chang 张, with a major highlight being a couple of outstanding external client site visits, hearing from the C-suite on their business and the role that firms such as ours can play in making them succeed. A big thank you to my team Stephanie McConachy Colby Cringle Chu Thi Huong Mai for your incredible hard work over the past few months to make this happen, and to my colleagues in the Hong Kong and Shenzhen offices for your fantastic logistics support and hospitality. Last week was a particularly productive one on the road with business visits to a couple of Asia Pacific cities, starting with Seoul where I had the opportunity to participate in a Korea Business Network workshop convened by our Samil PwC office, and to address partners and colleagues from across the PwC world. With the changing supply chain landscape in the region and the growing number of Korean businesses that are repositioning themselves and focusing on markets like Southeast Asia, it was timely to discuss and collectively address areas where we can support Korean businesses in this phase of their growth - supply chain diversification, energy transition and infrastructure development to name a few areas of current focus. Last week, PwC released another piece of thought leadership on the region, this time around the workforce, in conjunction with our Asia Pacific Hopes and Fears Survey 2024. The central finding from the survey is that change is constant, accelerating and evoking feelings of both optimism and uncertainty. We asked 19,500 workers across 14 Asia Pacific territories on their views of work and the evolving landscape, and this is a summary of what we heard: 1. Employees feel both excited and nervous about change which is accelerating - 68% say they have experienced more changes at work in the past year than in the prior 12 months. 2. The desire to change jobs continues to rise with 1 in 3 saying they are likely to change employers in the next year.  3. Employees lament the lack of skills development opportunities. 4. Optimism in GenAI is growing but its level of adoption in the workplace is limited - only 1 in 6 use it daily.  5. Asia Pacific employees see climate change as a tangible threat to their workplaces - 52% believe their employer has a responsibility to address environmental concerns. It was a pleasure to host PwC's Asia Pacific Technology, Media & Telecommunications (TMT) Leaders in Kuala Lumpur last week - a fruitful day and a half to discuss market developments globally and in the region, and align on common priorities areas to support clients, with Generative AI and Sustainability unsurprisingly being two key areas for deliberation.
