<0.5%: The success probability in IIT JEE <0.2%: The success probability in UPSC These are arguably 2 of the toughest examinations globally. Lakhs of Indians appear every year in the 2 examinations in the hope of achieving a long cherished dream. But, even these examinations absolutely pale out in comparison to the magnitude of another one. Cracking the Indian Cricket Team! Every Indian Boy, without exception, grows up with the dream of becoming an Indian Cricket Player. 👎 Many drop out due to parental pressure 👎 Many drop out to focus on academics aka the IIT JEEs and UPSCs of the world 👎 Many drop out because family responsibilities overshadow everything else 👎 Many drop out because they are just not good enough 👎 And yet, many drop out because they suck at it, including yours truly :) Even after so many layers of filtration, the probability of successfully becoming an Indian cricket player is mind numbingly low. And, what happens when you become successful? When you actually get to don that hugely prized blue jersey? You are on THAT BUS. You are an integral part of THAT VICTORY PARADE ON MARINE DRIVE. You become 👍 A Legend 👍 A Part of folklore 👍 A part of history 👍 And a part of myriad stories that grandfathers will not get tired of recounting to their grandsons. In the hope of inspiring the next generation of "Sharma Ji ka Beta" And for those who don't make it? You can still find them shadow bowling in the drawing rooms of their homes, Office Corridors, Alleys of malls, Parking spaces, Neighbourhood markets and everywhere imaginable. Their chances might have died but the dream lives on 💚 Thank you Team India for igniting so many dreams 🚀 Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Sachin #teamindia #worldcup2024 #cricket #champions

Early specialization may keep talented athletes from playing a sport at which they could perform at their best. However, effective talent identification programs can help athletes transfer their skills from one sport to another, and fast-track their path into elite performers. Here, senior #sportsjournalist and #HPLP alumni Amit Kamath writes about Army Sports Institute (ASI), Pune's talent transfer program that he heard about during an HPLP session. ASI is using talent transfer principles to find and train elite divers from #gymnastics, with promising results. Last time, when India won 7 medals in Olympics, GoI fanboys immediately gave Khelo India the credit Though all the 6 individual athletes were initially part of the Olympic Gold Quest program, which again was partially taken over by the sports ministry and renamed to TOPS just like many other renaming of older schemes After that, Khelo India was given a lot of funds. Major allocation went to a state which has no history of prime sportspersons in non cricket sports. Reason cited was that infra is getting built in that state, especially athletics tracks and swimming. Incidentally, the current athletes all use the respective SAI or sports body tracks which exist since 1990s. Only the pool was somewhat used Stadiums were built in fancy places and tom tomed This time, none of the Khelo India "discoveries" have done anything of note. In fact, the OGQ, Tata and JSW alumni have shone, along with State Government of Odisha sponsored hockey (my college batchmate TKB was the sports minister then. His party was ungratefully dumped subsequently) So what is the RoI of the Khelo India funds? Allocation to sports as a percentage of budget has been decreased constantly with excuse of Covid btw and players blamed for non performance. Not to forget sports ministers got changed frequently https://lnkd.in/gx-UWPZM ps: If we host the 2036 Olympics, we might create a world record of lowest medals won by a host nation in the history of the games as anyways more funds will be allocated to hosting and less to actual training of the athletes

In a measure to ensure accuracy in recording and ranking #performances, the #SDAT has shifted to a digital selection process to identify the young talents for its Sports Hostels (SH), Centre of Excellence (CoE) and Sports Hostel of Excellence (SHE). The new system, a first-of-its kind in #India enhances #transparency by allowing #athletes to view their performance metrics and results in real-time online. This puts an end to errors and favouritism in selection process. #Sports #TalentID #SportTN #SportsScience #Biomechanics Sportstar Sports Authority of India Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu - SDAT International Olympic Committee – IOC World Athletics International Hockey Federation (FIH) FIBA Fédération Internationale de Volleyball - FIVB Prashant Joglekar Dr. Mona Nargolwala Sportscom Industry Confederation Sports For All (SFA) Sports and Society Accelerator

India's Sports Infrastructure Current Condition: Assessing Readiness with an Eye on the 2036 Olympics: Check details here (Khelo India Playfield) -https://lnkd.in/dwWUX_Tp >> Only 10.4 per cent of India’s mapped and completed sports infrastructure across states and Union Territories (UTs) meets Olympic standards. >> According to the government's Khelo India dashboard, of the completed 15,822 sports infrastructure and 20,823 completed sports facilities in India covering 737 districts, only 1,645 completed sporting infrastructure and 2,473 completed sporting facilities are Olympic standard, covering 334 districts in the country. >> Badminton accounts for the largest number of Olympic-level sports facilities in the country with 314 playfields, followed closely by football (301), volleyball (270) and athletics (221). >> Among states and UTs with the maximum number of completed Olympic standard sports infrastructure, Tamil Nadu leads the pack with 390 followed by Delhi (161), Odisha (153) and Tripura (109). >> Tamil Nadu has 111 volleyball courts, 92 Athletic track and field avenues and 71 football fields which are Olympic-level. There are numerous takeaways from this, but the most significant is this: For those who claim that infrastructure is a major hurdle in India, sports like badminton, volleyball, football, and athletics already have sufficient facilities for those determined to reach the top. Where are the footballing states players in AIFF-FIFA Academy . 1 from Goa, 1 From Kerala. Top tier ISL clubs failed to focus on Grassroots. Grassroots football is fundamental to the development of the sport in any region. It serves as the foundation upon which elite performance levels are built, providing a pathway for young players to progress from recreational play to professional careers. It shows your talent and Hard work will definitely pay you off. Start focusing on self development instead of result oriented, give yourself 4-5 Years. #Indianfootball #Aiff #Football

10 IDEAS FOR IMPROVING GOVERNANCE IN INDIA 8. Olympic gold medals have eluded India for decades. My idea is to geographically identify the country as 6000 odd blocks, and ask the Tehsildar in each block, to identify three most promising sportspersons from his small territory‘s schools and colleges, listing 18,000 outstanding boys and girls. District Magistrates can test and prune the list to 10% or 1800 outstanding ones, in their sports events. Chief Secretaries can take the initiative, for the first time, and select one likely winner from each of the 760 odd districts. Sports Authority of India then can pick this 760 pruned & spotted talent, and give them the best overseas training at a rough budget of ₹ 1 crore each, to be supplemented if necessary, by MPLAD scheme funds of the concerned MP of the area. I’m confident, with 35 intense years of administration, that 2-3% of these or 15 to 20, will bring us the yellow medal. Even if you reduce it to 1%, to be conservative, you have 7-8 gold medals annually–an unprecedented achievement. Silver and bronze will supplement the total medal tally. *To be continued with 1 idea for the next few days.. #iim #iima #ias
