Thanks Carter for creating a post about my comment. You do a great service to the community to facilitate lively discussions about important topics. You asked for my input, so I’ll start with my thoughts on some of the thoughtful comments in this post: Tam Ellis hit the nail on the head. She wrote “Many technical buyers just don’t trust the recommendations of analysts that can talk the talk, but haven’t walked the walk. Many technical buyers are looking to peers for unfiltered feedback.” PeerSpot is strongest among technical buyers, who are influential especially in the selection of vendors in Cyber, IT, DevOps, and other software. Prash Chandramohan wrote “I have challenges with the validity of the reviews” on some of the review sites. We agree! And that’s why PeerSpot has a Zero Fake Review commitment. We know that in order to be a credible alternative to Gartner for tech buyers, PeerSpot will need to continue to offer the highest quality reviews in the industry, including GPI. Michael Rasmussen wrote “I find that many vendors have learned to game peer review sites”. Agree! PeerSpot is the only review platform that is fully transparent about its ranking algorithm in order to prevent behind the scenes gaming of the platform. No one really knows why a dot in an MQ appears where it does, same as with some of the other review site grids that are not transparent. Hyoun Park wrote some wise words “A decade ago, I thought peer review sites were going to compete against analyst firms” and went on to list key features that review sites are missing. In a reply to my analysis of Forrester’s recent quarterly earnings, Russell Rothstein, CEO & Founder of PeerSpot said: “Peer review sites with high-quality content are disrupting the analysts. First the tier 2 analysts, then Gartner.” Interesting assertion that other review sites have made and is worth exploring. To get the ball rolling Russell, G2, TrustRadius please provide insights on: 1. What is “disruption” in the context of analyst firms and peer review sites? 2. What parts of analyst firms’ services and research are being disrupted? 3. What are the metrics to determine if disruption is happening? 4. Which types of analyst firms are susceptible to disruption?
