In a remarkable turn of events, PepsiCo briefly possessed the world's sixth-largest naval fleet in 1989. In a peculiar deal, the Russian government sold Pepsi 17 submarines, a frigate, a cruiser, and a destroyer, all in an effort to maintain the flow of Pepsi soda into the country.This strange arrangement was an evidence test to the power of global trade and the lengths companies would go to secure their market share. It’s quite ironic that, after establishing the Civil Air Patrol in 1941, Congress is trying to figure out how to fill the many open positions in the aviation industry…to include pilots. Cadet Programs are an investment in America’s future. Today’s Cadets…tomorrow’s Aerospace leaders. Our responsibility is to expose Cadets to the myriad of opportunities in the aviation industry while even providing training for them. It is much more than a simple ‘youth program.’ It includes physical fitness, academic acumen, character development, and STEM training. While there is no commitment to joining the military, a military structure is used because it aids in personal discipline while being a part of a team. If you have a child (12-17 years old) who is looking to be a part of a team while developing into a productive and happy adult, let me know. Happy 2024! This was one of my favorite books from 2023. It's the story of a father and a warrior who pushes the systems he's given to the limits to rescue his family. This is a story of a aeronautical engineering and flying genius who led both his men and his leadership in developing new types of attacks (like surface level strafing of naval targets vs high-altitude bombing) as well as modifying planes to keep pace with the new tactics. His partnership with the rep from North American Aviation led to modifications in the B-25 that helped shred the Japanese Navy (they figured out how to fit a 75mm howitzer in one model - link in comments) and is a great example of virtuous feedback loops between ops, acquisitions, and manufacturing. What can us ground bound mere mortals learn from the soaring US Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron, Blue Angels? A lot as it turns out, including lessons in #leadership and how to build high performing #teams. I recently had the chance to see the new #IMAX Blue Angels #documentary and the awe-inspiring live show at the U.S. Naval Academy in #Annapolis just two days apart. I highly recommend both, but it's probably a little easier to see the documentary also now on #amazonprime than it is to get to the live version. It's a #MasterClass in goal setting, building #trust and #camaraderie, #empowerment, #accountability, #continuousimprovement and as you might imagine when it comes to flying a 16-ton jet at over 400 miles per hour just inches away from others, lots of #communication.
