The chronic pain associated with an illness can profoundly impact a child's wellbeing, both physically and mentally. Children often rely on positive and therapeutic distractions to help support anxiety and cope with pain. Mark, who lives with sickle cell disease, often experiences pain crises. Frequent visits to the hospital can often lead to heightened feelings of stress and loneliness for him. Starlight Virtual Reality provides him with a positive distraction from pain through immersive games and activities, helping to boost his mood and emotional wellbeing during those difficult times. "[Starlight VR] really brightens his day," his mom told us. "You can see the magic in [his] eyes, you can see the excitement, you can feel that energy coming back, and you can feel the love. Thank you for what your programs have done for my son." Starlight programs, like VR, can make a tremendous difference on a child's wellbeing, like it did for Mark. Help us ensure every hospitalized child can experience positive distractions during their most difficult moments. https://lnkd.in/g9kpMntz 🌟 #DeliveringHappiness #SickleCellAwareness

There is a common stereotype that virtual reality is mainly for entertainment and gaming. However, this is not the case! Did you know that VR is becoming an increasingly popular method of treating mental illness? First of all, it should be noted that virtual reality therapy is not the same as teletherapy, or talking to a therapist over video instead of commuting to their office. VRT revolves around the use of a virtual world, such as a computer game or headset. When used correctly, computer-simulated worlds offer a profound form of treatment for many mental health conditions. There is a specific type of VRT called virtual reality exposure therapy, which immerses someone in a 3-D environment that feels extremely real. Often this is done using a headset. One example of this type of therapy is that if someone is afraid of heights, the 3-D environment may depict a glass elevator, and can be used to help them conquer their fear. Another form of VRT is talking to a therapist under the guise of an avatar in a computer-generated environment. VRT can be used to help treat anxiety, depression, phobias, PTSD, eating disorders, grief and loss, etc. Do you believe in virtual reality therapy or do you prefer more traditional methods? #VirtualReality #VR #VirtualRealityTherapy #MentalHealth #MentalIllness

Fun fact connecting my background in art and XR with this Lewy Body Dementia journey: the first VR project I ever created a few years ago was an homage to precious memories. In Risotto Ricordi, you help a grandmother put together one of her family's favorite recipes (as it is getting more difficult to remember how) while listening to her memories as you interact with items around her house. The house itself is also from her memory, recreated from archival photos and my own memories of the stories our grandparent's told. A love letter to the rich tapestries that exist in our minds and how they connect us to each other. For many families, the road of dementia is a long one. It has twists, turns, dead ends, wide open sprawling landscapes where you may not know which direction to head in. For some it is a sprint, for others it is a years-long marathon. For caregivers; acknowledging and working through everything you feel is often a need that consistently is set aside as focus on other things takes precedence. It can be so hard to find time for yourself, not matter what is going on in life. Creating art is one way to work through these feelings and can be a deeply cathartic and necessary part of the ongoing journey. www.LBDA.org #dementia #lewybodydementia #XR #VR #storytelling

Mental health is something that is near and dear to my heart. As a kid, I suffered with crippling anxiety. I remember hating not being able to control these attacks. They seemed to come out of nowhere, and I just felt so helpless. It was embarrassing, frightening and I overthought everything. Thankfully, my parents helped steer me to a great therapist who gave me tools to help me overcome an anxiety attack. I'm happy to say, those tools have followed me throughout my life, and I still use them today not only for myself, but my kids as well. Some people who suffer with anxiety, PTSD, depression or even phobias, sometimes have a hard time reaching out for help. They may feel embarrassed, scared or even stupid for having to deal with these things in the first place. They don't want to burden anyone with their problems, so they keep it to themselves. They fight the battle alone. Thankfully more options are making their way into the mental health field, improving and educating everyone on a once taboo topic. Seeing VR make its way into the therapy space provides an environment for people who may need help in a controlled way. It allows them to feel safe and protected with the things they may be dealing with alone. It also provides the flexibility to "go to therapy" on their time. This option may not work for everyone, however any new tools we can add to the toolbox for anyone suffering with their mental health, is a win in my book. #MentalHealth #MentalHealthMatters #Anxiety #Depression #PTSD #phobias #VR #VirtualReality #VRTherapy #Therapy
🌟 Did You Know? 🌟 Virtual Reality (VR) isn't just for gaming or entertainment—it's also making significant strides in the field of mental health. VR is now being used for therapeutic purposes, offering new hope for individuals struggling with PTSD, anxiety, and phobias. How Does VR Therapy Work? 🔹 Controlled Environment: VR allows therapists to create a controlled, safe environment where patients can confront and manage their fears gradually. This is particularly beneficial for individuals dealing with anxiety or phobias, where real-world exposure might be too overwhelming. 🔹 PTSD Treatment: For those suffering from PTSD, VR therapy provides a way to revisit traumatic events in a controlled manner, helping patients process their experiences and reduce the emotional impact over time. This can lead to significant improvements in their quality of life. 🔹 Anxiety and Phobia Management: VR therapy can simulate scenarios that trigger anxiety or phobias, allowing patients to practice coping mechanisms in a safe space. Over time, this can reduce the intensity of their reactions and empower them to face these situations in real life. The immersive nature of VR is what makes it such a powerful tool in therapy. By fully engaging the senses, VR helps patients stay present and focused during their therapy sessions, leading to better outcomes. At MadXR, we are creating experiences that not only entertain but also heal. #MadXR #VirtualReality #VRinHealthcare #MentalHealth #Therapy #PTSD #Anxiety #Phobias #VRTherapy #ImmersiveTechnology #DigitalHealth

Nice to see our paper focused on sociodemographic factors in #chronic #pain management with #virtualreality #VR delivered therapy getting some press. https://lnkd.in/gWTCk8YV The article emphasizes the fact that #RelieVRx engagement is higher in seniors; definitely an important finding. Equally important is the fact that we see strong clinical effectiveness, therapeutic engagement, and device usability across age, gender, race/ethnicity and socioeconomic status.
