Sister Zeph, a Pakistani teacher, has been awarded the prestigious Global Teacher Prize for 2023, receiving a prize of $1 million. Her remarkable journey began when she was just 13 years old, as she founded a school for underprivileged children in her home's courtyard. She worked tirelessly, funding the school through eight-hour workdays, teaching pupils for four hours, and even dedicating her nights to self-learning. Over the span of 26 years, the school has grown from its modest beginnings to a new building, providing free education to over 200 disadvantaged children. Sister Zeph's plans for the prize money include constructing a school on a four-hectare campus to educate the poorest children in Pakistan without discrimination, as well as establishing a shelter for orphans and inviting teachers from around the world to provide classes. Sister Zeph's dedication and her transformative impact on her community have earned her this prestigious award, which recognizes outstanding contributions to the teaching profession. Sister Zeph's story exemplifies the power of education in tackling contemporary issues and nurturing young minds.
