Q - I am a property manager in Hyattsville. I have seen an uptick in crime lately, but am not sure if I should hire security. What are the benefits of having an officer in my building? A - Security serves many roles that help to augment a building's overall safety. Initially, a uniformed security - that is, one who looks ready, willing, and able to respond to situations, without being intentionally intimidating - serves to deter crime from without, and disorder from within. This deterrence is half of the battle - getting people who want vandalize and wreak havoc, to do so somewhere else. A professional security officer also acts as an ambassador for the building, providing direction to those who need it, and often (if provided a desk/concierge station), providing access control. Keeping a residential building closed off from just anyone makes residents safer. A competent security officer is also a property's first responder to all manner of incidents, from civil issues that need addressing (such as dangerous conditions, like slippery surfaces and loose railings), to fire alarms, medical incidents, and criminal activity. Competent security officers are trained to de-escalate and contain situations, and detain criminals if probable cause exists, pending the arrival of outside assistance from the police, fire, and ems providers. Not all security companies are alike - many companies, especially national outfits, provide the illusion of security, but ensure through training and supervision that their officers do NOT interdict criminal activity, and merely stand around, and watch. Prominence Security is not one of those companies. PSD wants to actually protect our clients, within the limits of our jurisdiction and the law, not just be human cell phones. If you need competent, professional security, contact Prominence for any site within the DMV! #propertymanagement #propertymanager #security #specialpolice #residential #safety

Security Officer: Role vs. Expectations! Ever wondered about the role of a security officer in the UK? Let's break it down! Role in the UK: 1️⃣ Protecting property, assets, and people. 2️⃣ Monitoring surveillance equipment and conducting regular checks. 3️⃣ Reporting any irregularities and enforcing safety protocols. 4️⃣ Collaborating with law enforcement when necessary. Common Expectations: Often thought to just "stand guard", but it's so much more. Assumed to intervene physically all the time, but the emphasis is often on de-escalation. Seen as just muscle, when in reality they're trained to be alert, analytical and tactful. Security officers are not just "guards". They're integral to safety, trained professionals, and the first line of defence in many scenarios. Let's appreciate their nuanced roles and the depth of their responsibilities. #SecurityOfficer #UKSecurity #BeyondExpectations #BusinessSafety
