Greater Houston, just a little context for those that don’t really understand why there are such widespread outages. CenterPoint Energy was still recovering from not one but two, yes two tornadoes that took out at least 10 transmission towers ~4 weeks ago and also took out many distribution lines when #Beryl hit as a catagory 1 hurricane doing much more wide spread damage. Not only did this impact the tornado recovery efforts it also had its own natural (or Act of God) disaster effects which could not be forecasted, or recovered from quickly! Just about the same time many mutual assist utility crews departed they had to deal with this new event. Knowing many of the folks at CenterPoint very well, I can assure you they are working as hard as possible to get service restored asap. We can all help by keeping our trees trimmed and managing growth / vegetation along lines, but nothing can really stop Mother Nature from this sort of thing! Let’s give them a little time! Oh and yes, we too were without power too. #SupportLineWorkers #MutualAssist

Last we week landed new job, a Wetland Delineation on a site that we previously performed a Wetland Determination.........back in 2014!? It was the 8th project on the books for Headwater and I was the sole employee. You never know when an old project will return. This is a friendly reminder to record good field notes, organize project folders and have a protocol for retrieving archived projects. Over the course of this next year, we want to take a moment to highlight each of them. Here to kick it off is Kyle Knight, GIT from our Ohio office! We got to ask Kyle some pretty fun questions about his professional and personal life. Without further ado, let the spotlight shine on Kyle as we embark on this exciting series of profiles showcasing the diverse and talented team that makes ANS Geo thrive... 1.) What inspired you to join the team here?   "Prior to joining ANS my professional career as Geologist was solely in Oil and Gas Industry. My experience there left many things to be desired and ANS seemed to embody many of these professional attributes I was seeking. These attributes included sustainability and environmental concerns, career diversity and growth, avoiding market trends and layoffs, and above all it was the undeniable fact that the leadership cares for its people." 2.) What would your perfect weekend look like?   "A perfect weekend for me would be an overnight rafting trip in Colorado/Utah. I have been fortunate to have lived close enough to drive to some amazing sections of the Colorado River. The beauty, serenity, laughs, and freedom I felt on those trips with my friends and family is unmatched." 3.) What’s something surprising that not many people know about you?   "One thing few people know about me is that during the quarantine of 2020 I made my personal practice of making spice infused coffee creamers into a hobby and a (very) small business. I called it “Conscious Creamers”. It was made of oat, almond, or dairy milk infused with vanilla, cinnamon, cardamom, nutmeg, turmeric, coriander, and cayenne. It was enjoyable, however I realized being in the food and beverage retail industry was not my path." 4.) What have been some of the most important lessons you’ve learned throughout your career?   "One of the most important lessons I have learned throughout my career is to be adaptable in the face of change. The ability to pivot, learn quickly, and embrace challenges are some of the more valuable skills I have acquired, and continue to implement, as a professional. As JFK said, “Change is the law of life, and those who look only to the past or present are certain to miss the future.”

Your bribes are more then welcome!... *** Ohio commission decides to allow fracking in state parks The commissioners held a meeting to consider the applications, and many environmentalists showed up to protest. A government commission in Ohio has decided to open some state parks and wildlife areas to fracking.  The decision comes amid an investigation on allegations of possible fraudulent support from an industry group representing energy companies, The Associated Press reported. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources Oil and Gas Land Management Commission (OGLMC) greenlit multiple fracking proposals on land owned by Ohio Department of Natural Resources and the Ohio Department of Transportation, according to a report by The Associated Press. The commissioners held a meeting to consider the applications, and many environmentalists showed up to protest. After one member of the audience threw play money on the ground in front of commissioners in protest, the commissioner chair Ryan Richardson responded, “I’m going to ask again that we can show respect to the commissioners,” Ideastream Public Media reported. The protestor responded, “Why should we show respect when you are not respecting us, and you’re giving away our land to profit-making oil and gas?
