This!! My oldest, a fresh high school graduate, who has been 18 for all of 2 weeks had a very open conversation with me back in May, right before graduation. While he was set to graduate, he did the bare minimum to get there and he was starting to realize that while it got him where he was trying to get, it wasn't the best course. He finally said to me, "I feel like there is so much wasted potential". Once I heard that, without thinking, I blurted out, "Are you dead??", of course he is not and shook his head, "no"...I said, "Is this the end of your life?" again a head shake, "Are you giving up?", again..."No". I replied with the reassuring mom response of, "good I have not given up on you, I will not give up on you, and while I could see so much potential in you and tried to push you to see it too, I had to wait for your eyes to open up, and I am glad they have!". I simply told him, "If you are living and breathing you simply have potential, not wasted potential!" I could visibly see the tension release from his shoulders. Everyone needs to remember this, your potential is never wasted if you're still on this planet, still willing to try, still willing to fail, and the willing to get back up and try again, you are full of potential! I am proud to say that he decided to enroll in college and is going for his Associates in Computer Science! He understands that due to the minimal effort in high school, he has some catch up work to do, but he now sees his potential and is ready to tap into it! #successfulmommoment #parenting #guidance #leadership #knowledge

I supposed every job has certain part that we love and dislike/annoyed with. Some friends asked how do we stay motivated doing what it seem to be repetitive every year. My answer has been the same since day 1. At Uni Enrol we are learning the work. We need to get super familiar with it because we are designing the new-gen online service for higher education search. (That’s why I still spend time on more than 1000 counseling sessions this year) We aim to build suitable solution and we believe that can only come from strong domain expertise (combine with technology). And since our mission is different so it does not feel repetitive 🤭. This is one of the most recent meeting with counseling, product and tech team to discuss about our new product for our next year student. One of my most favourite part of my job. If you know anyone who is talented, driven, trustworthy and passionate about higher education, please introduce them to us. One of the key roles to fill today: https://lnkd.in/gms9bbfF Aaron H. Siee Hoong Loh Cheah Ken Hoong

College Success Coach | Educator | Author | I help college instructors improve first year outcomes through connection and success habits
As your students prepare to leave campus for the Thanksgiving break, you know some of them are going home to have "the talk" with their parents about how things are going. Some are in a great position ahead of the college convo. Some will ask you for second chances and extra credit. Others will take no action despite where they stand. To make it a little better for some, remind them there are actions they can take to improve their chances of passing your course, then let them know what they are. Remember, your freshmen were in high school less than 6 months ago and not everyone has figured out how to be a good college student. Whether or not you provide second chances to submit work or provide extra credit is your business. The key is to communicate to students what they CAN do, and put the ball in their court. Take a few minutes before the break to help them understand what proactive looks like at this point in the semester instead of waiting for them to react later. Empower them to use their break effectively. #CollegeTeaching #TeachingFreshmen #ModelForThem #ConnectingWithStudents #StudentEmpowerment

According to statistics,60% of ASAP students earn a degree in just one year.98% of students persist after one year toward their bachelor’s degree or a second associate degree.100% of our graduates who have applied have been accepted into one or more four-year colleges. If you have any questions send them my way!
In the ASsociate Accelerated Program (ASAP) program, classes are held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Coursework is spread over five eight-week terms, or 2 ½ semesters. It’s a rewarding program, but a rigorous one, that will essentially become a student’s full-time occupation until graduation. Learn more about what ASAP has to offer at ivytech.edu/asap/
