🌟 End of year new thingymabob resolution alert🌟 After 5-6 years of navigating the ever-evolving world of UX, I've decided to take a step into formal mentoring and have recently joined the ADPList community (@ADPList). Mentoring is something I've always held dear, a way to give back to the UX community that's been a guiding light throughout my journey. While I'm just starting out in this formal capacity, I look forward to the opportunity to share my insights and learn alongside emerging UX designers. I firmly believe in the power of potential over experience. My own journey included its share of challenges, like when my previous company grew 10x within 1 year with heaps of middle management and process changes within the org, to my next company facing administration and suddenly not having a job - making the job hunt a real test of perseverance. Also been there at the beginning of my UX journey being in the shoes of those told, "You have potential, but we need someone with more experience." To those starting their UX voyage or seeking to elevate their skills, I'm here to offer guidance. Community is critical for your personal and professional growth 🌳 We tend to believe that pursuing individual efforts will bring us remarkable rewards 🎁 But having observed the strength of the #uxr community over the past (soon!) two years, I can confidently say that there is nothing more powerful than being a part of a community 💗 So how do you know you are part of one? ☎ You can rely on others for support and tips without feeling like you owe this person anything, but kindness and gratitude. ☕ When you meet up, it feels like yesterday, because the topics you discuss are close to your heart, they matter and you know it matters to them too. 💻 Building a product for the community is a bigger ask than when you do it just for profits because you know the challenges your community is experiencing and so, you are building it with them. 🎉 When one person wins, everyone else does too. You know what and how that person is feeling when they win, so celebrating with them is that much easier! Next time, when you feel lonely or need support, think about your community. Is there one, can you create one or can you actively join one? Over recent months, I've been deeply immersed in a transformative learning journey facilitated by Acumen Academy and IDEO.org that provided a unique opportunity to collaborate with my peer Sarah Stanislevic, delve into human-centered problems, extract insights, conduct thorough research, and ultimately develop product/solutions with a people-first approach. I am highly grateful to Sushil Mate for his inspiration and for introducing me to this course. This was not a regular online course but required a lot of independent brainstorming sessions. For our challenge, we talked to people from the USA and Latin America to understand their diverse demographics and challenges through human-centered research methods. Our focus was on creating a solution aligned with UN Sustainable Development Goal 2: 'Zero Hunger', specifically targeting millions of SNAP participants from low-income families in the US. The culmination of our efforts led to the creation of an innovative SNAPHealth app prototype that can help more than 1.71 million SNAP participants alone in NY(US). Overall, this experience has not only expanded my understanding of human-centered design but also equipped me with the practical skills and empathy necessary to create meaningful solutions that have the potential to positively impact the lives of those facing poverty-related challenges. “I don’t understand why we need to prioritise digital accessibility.” This is something I hear regularly. As a Senior Product Designer immersed in product discovery and development, I will be publishing a regular LinkedIn series to strip away misconceptions and shed light on the often overlooked impact of inaccessible digital products. Why embark on this LinkedIn series? It's simple. To bring clarity and to clear the fog on digital accessibility & inclusivity. This series aims to provide practical insights for designers, product managers, developers and others seeking to understand, integrate, and advocate for accessibility. It's important we design and build digital products to be genuinely inclusive. The takeaway? An extensive toolkit of bitesize learning for tangible change. Sometime you may also regret spreadig wrong information to others mistakenly. Let's dive in the conext of this post. !!! 😨 Recently, I've been thinking about how easily misinformation can spread on social media & experienced the same. I was scrollling my Instagram feed and saw a reel about the incident that today to my nearby known location few people met with a brutal accident & one needed specific bloodgroup to exchange urgently. I was about to share this to my friends and network & suddenly I could remember that I had seen the similar information in newspaper last week. Then I reconfirmed that the reel has become an outdated now & the incident was hapended last week. Hence I should not share this to others. First, understand What is #Misinformation & #Disinformation ???? #Misinformation refers to inaccurate or misleading information which mostly cause from misunderstanding, lack of knowledge or a mistake. #Disinfomration refers to false information spreaed deliberately to deceive. #Why? Unlike regular posts, reels don't show when they were posted. This can cause confusion because people might not realize how old the information is before sharing it & spreading potential Misinformation & Disinformation. #Usecase -When someone shares a week-old weather forecast reel today, it could cause unnecessary worry. -Reel detailing about riots hapended in past and it floats after a month of the incident may spread hateness & negative impact to society. #PossibleSolution Adding the creation date of reels would help people know if the information is still relevant.  Though It's a small change, but if Meta could consider this improvement, it can make a big difference in stopping misinformation from spreading as I believe.
