Something I learned from one of my mentors: How do you define success as a leader? Look at the people around you and their success. This led me on a journey from a solo advisor to building a team capable of serving clients and their families nationwide for generations. Having played basketball from childhood through college, teamwork has always been an integral part of my life. The most rewarding parts of being a business owner all revolve around our team: → Seeing things in people that they don’t yet see in themselves → Unlocking potential in people → Enjoying a team atmosphere where we challenge each other to do 1% better every day, personally and professionally 🚀

1 simple thing I have seen to be completely missed when leading a team: Mentorship! Everyone in your team needs mentoring. Your team does not know everything. Your team needs know where to improve. Your team needs know what they do well. Your team needs know what they do best. This is the easiest way to mentor your team to success. Their success is your success. But there is more. Mentoring your team improves you. Mentoring your team lets you grow. Mentoring your team makes your a true leader. Mentorship is the best you can do as a leader. Do it for you and for your team. For those leaders out there… you do many things that go unsung. You get a lot of criticism for the things you don’t do perfectly, but there are many good things you do that aren’t even acknowledged. Do them anyway. Give people chances, shots, and opportunities. Invest in them, mentor, develop, and help them grow. Trust them and put them on your largest clients. Send them to conferences and train them. Appreciate them and give them at-a-boys. And when they leave, without a thank you or a goodbye, hire the next person and do it all over again. Because it’s the right thing to do. You get more satisfaction from helping and watching someone grow than you do the thank you…and because you’re slightly insane to want to lead.
