This is a heartwarming story only because of the outcome, and thank goodness for that! Any other outcome would be nothing less than tragic. Not to take away from the heroic actions and love this young boy demonstrated for his sister, but as someone involved in the industry where it is my mission to provide lasting solutions for dog owners and their canine companions - I want to unequivocally say that there is no place for half measures when approaching the training, selecting, and placing of dogs into society. There is a growing movement across the world that implies that to train a dog for reliable and safe behavior with any consequence is a bad thing (especially when using training aids to achieve those results). Well, not only is that patently wrong, but in situations where dogs exist without proper behavior and impulse control…we leave innocent individuals at risk to harm because of the shared public (and private) space we all occupy oftentimes with dogs. Any organization promoting falsehood about training with only “positive methodology” as a way to address canine misbehavior or ones that refuse to acknowledge a dog for the animal it is should be immediately ignored as an authority or subject matter expert with respect to dogs with problematic behaviors or histories. Usually when I know the schedule a few weeks ahead of time, I try to get a jump on things. I was to be writing material ahead for #FuryUsyk in the next week. Obviously, those plans have changed. This should serve as a reminder to those who think things can't happen in sparring sessions that it is the exact opposite and I've seen and heard of many accidents like this and even worse happening in sparring. Nothing to say as of now, but Olekaandr Usyk is said to still be training to defend his portion of the World Heavyweight championship on February 17 in Saudi Arabia. Once I have info on that or a potential rescheduling of this fight with Tyson Fury for what was to be the Undisputed Heavyweight championship, it will be on the website once I'm notified. As far as the gash Fury suffered in sparring earlier today as seen here, it is said to have happened due to an elbow. I've seen plenty of bad cuts, I can't remember a single fight I covered of Arturo Gatti's career from the mid-1990's until 2007 where he wasn't cut in some way. Some fighters suffer cuts and end up developing scar tissue that makes them more vulnerable to getting cut. Gatti and Troy Dorsey are two of the best examples I can use regarding that. Although this does not seem as bad visually, this is bringing back memories of the fight I covered in 2003 between Lennox Lewis and Vitali Klitschko. The cut Klitschko suffered in that fight, even though he dominated most of it, and the cut ultimately led to the fight being stopped and Lewis winning what ended up being his last fight in his career, is still the worst gash I've ever seen in terms of traditional Boxing. This does not look as bad, but it's a bad one and Fury might have what would amount to be a target going forward in his career even after this heals. It's difficult to find the exact numbers on McGregor due to undisclosed figures, but it's estimated that he has brought in an average of $37 Million per year over his career from his UFC fights and cross-over boxing bout against undefeated champion Floyd Mayweather. On the other hand, when McGregor sold his majority stake in the Proper 12 Whiskey brand in 2021, the deal was reported to have fetched around $600 million. At times there was genuine fear and questions to understand if we should continue. However, through belief and trust, many different people, many different organisations, pulled together to deliver a fantastic night of World Championship Boxing. We all stayed calm on the surface but paddled like hell under the water, in short we all trusted each other to do our jobs.
