Congrats to Shahan, our newest Advanced EMT. He joined Sterling Rescue after graduating from high school and is now finishing his final year in college. Even with his college schedule, he says he stayed as an active volunteer member with Sterling Rescue because of his “love for the work we do and the community we serve” and adds that, “after joining SVRS, I quickly found that there is nothing more rewarding than helping people in their time of need, especially when the help we provide is based on our own training, skills, and experience. I enjoyed expanding my skill set by completing my AEMT training and I look forward to better serving our community with this new role. ” AEMT Shahan also had this to say about volunteering at Sterling Rescue. “I also love how our team of experienced and charismatic providers all hail from different backgrounds and stages of life but come together to serve a common goal.” AEMT Shahan is a great example of empowered to save, inspired to serve! Sending congratulations and a Happy New Year to our Atlantic R2R rowers who are competing in the world's toughest row. And a massive round of applause for the team’s extraordinary climb to the top 5 yesterday and already overnight to 4th position! Starting off as the underdogs on day two, they’ve shown the world their incredible determination and spirit. Day 21, and their journey continues to inspire us all. Richard, Paul, Tom, & Jordan have been preparing for over 3 years, overcoming numerous obstacles before the race even began: "For some, it’s a test of limits; for others, a surprising form of therapy. Those long, reflective nights at sea provide valuable time for self-evaluation, perspective, and gratitude. It’s a race that tests not just physical endurance but mental resilience, and it’s inspiring to see each team member discover their personal motivations and strengths." As the boys continue this once-in-a-lifetime race, we wish them, and all of you, safe voyages and calm seas in 2024. They couldn’t have done it without the huge support of family, friends, and the community. Plus, they’ve already raised significant funds for mental health awareness – which is so close to their hearts. Still, every donation, whether small, medium, or large, is invaluable. Teamwork makes the dream work! It’s amazing how bringing in the right person at the right time can drive immediate and broad positive impact on an organization (and our community). 🙌🏻 Sarah Golman In talking with a community stakeholder this week, he shared his goal of creating lifelong employment opportunities for A+ talent in the Dallas Jewish nonprofit community. Nonprofit work is rooted in the “soft stuff” like heart, mission alignment, and compassion. Taking this role after a 15 year career in financial services, I thought I was already prepared for the “tough stuff” but I have never worked with a team so open to big change, focused on driving positive results for our stakeholders, and relentless about collaborating across the community to bring deep impact and support for those who need it most. Yes, it takes a big heart to bring your A+ game to this sector - but it requires grit, intellect, and determination, too. To attract and retain top talent, it demands investment. If you’re a donor or a board member of a nonprofit organization, consider endowing resources to fund the costliest roles in the agency you love. Similar to endowing a chair at a university, this creates operational flexibility and ensures that the organization can attract A+ talent no matter what’s going on in the market and environment around you. To my fellow nonprofit sector friends: how are you attracting and retaining A+ talent?? ⤵️
COO APPRECIATION POST: Not even 90 days into her role, Sarah Golman has hit the ground running! When she’s not knee deep in negotiations with our construction project partners (we’re moving in March!), she’s building out processes and formalizing procedures, planning team building events (we are so excited about Gardenuity) and making sure our trustees, donors, and nonprofit agency partners are maximizing their impact on our community (she wrote our first ever impact report, and has been a critical partner in numerous new programs). On top of all that, she’s a super mom, community volunteer, and wife to Brett Golman. Hats off to Sarah!! We 💙 you!
