How Supporting Local Initiatives Spurs Economic Justice In today's globalized world, local businesses often struggle to compete with large corporations, yet they play a vital role in building a more equitable economy. Did you know that for every $100 spent at a local business, about $68 stays within the community, compared to only $43 when spent at a non-local business? By supporting local initiatives, we not only foster a sense of community but also create opportunities for marginalized groups. Studies show that minority-owned businesses are more likely to hire from within their communities, thus narrowing the wealth gap. Moreover, local businesses tend to source their products locally, further stimulating the local economy and reducing environmental impact. #TimeToTalkDay Every year since starting our charity, we have encouraged people to TALK on this day, it's important. However, people are talking to us. In record numbers. People need more. They need change. Systems need to be better. People need better & faster support. Young people & families should get help quickly and not wait upto 18 months for support. Early support and prevention hubs such as the Youth Access model should be across all communities, investment key in the right areas to provide it. People should be treated as individuals, supported at their own pace, focusing on relationships. Not put on programmes and given 6 sessions to "fix problems", or face a few strikes and they are back at square one. Adults are talking in record numbers with us about their problems. No money, no hope, plans for suicide, being alone, isolated, no community connection, no sense of belonging. We attend too many funerals of people who die far too soon. We’re proud to support Social Mobility Day 2024. IICF believes that everyone should be able to achieve their full potential, regardless of where they might have started out in life. That is why we are bringing the industry together to change live and improve social mobility in the UK.   IICF is driving change in four ways: 1.     We award grants to social mobility charities nominated by the industry. We’ve changed the lives of 7,200 people from under-served communities nationwide.  2.     We connect our charity and corporate partners to create access to diverse talent, share skills, and raise awareness of different forms of diversity. 3.     We convene industry leaders at events such as our annual Forum on Social Impact to share best practices, take practical steps forward and raise funds for future grants. 4.     We offer an industry-wide platform for volunteering to increase ways employees can make a difference. Hearing stories from our grant recipients at events, sharing volunteer experiences and learning that companies have partnered with or hired someone from one of our grant recipient charities are a few of the many moments that have mattered to us.
