I know today is a Sunday and many of my industry colleagues won't be on LinkedIn today....but whenever you do see this post please take a few extra moments to think about the importance of transportation safety. We recognize Nov 19 as the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims, a sadly all-too-common outcome on our transportation network. I've read statistics that say as many as 95% of us know someone who has been involved in an unnecessary roadway crash, and I'm sure it's a ridiculously high percentage for those who have gone on to lose their lives as a result of those crashes. We can do better. We MUST do better. Through the #SafeSystemApproach we know that roadway safety can be enhanced by addressing the problem from many different angles - the driver, the roadway, the vehicle, the post-crash response, and the understanding that humans can and will make mistakes. Let's take some of that political energy spent on nonsensical issues and push it in the direction of saving lives! In the US alone we lose nearly 40,000 people every year. EVERY YEAR! Let's make 2024 the year we turn the corner on safety, and start making decisions, policies, funding, and most importantly attention to fixing this unnecessarily sad statistic! https://lnkd.in/emwE7dzd

Very well said Steve. Today is an important day for the industry and a day for each day of us to reflect on the decisions we have made and the influence we can have on improving the safety of our roadways. Together we can make a difference.

Thanks for bringing this message to the fore, Steve. The fatality statistics are simply untenable. Industry and government have to address this problem together and take action immediately!
