This alarming trend represents a significant menace on our roads, one that demands urgent attention and proactive measures. As we mark the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims this Sunday, we kick off something important today - our #SafetyWeeks! 1.3 million people die in road traffic crashes every year. Shockingly, road traffic injuries are the leading cause of death for people between the ages of 5 and 29, and over 50% of all road deaths involve vulnerable road users. These figures underscore the urgency of safer roads and why it is not just a concern, but a collective responsibility. ❓What can we do better in tomorrow's traffic to prevent accidents and make roads safer for everyone? 🌧️ Adequate road maintenance is crucial, yet it’s a challenge for Governments to keep up to the needs of our aged road network, especially since major flood events are becoming the new norm. Earlier this week the #GrattanInstitute drew attention to the need for major reforms in funding for the maintenance of local government roads. Leading up to World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims on Sunday, it’s important we all start conversations with decision makers and advocate for long-term, durable road maintenance strategies so that there are safe road surfaces for all riders and drivers. More durable road patching is a start – every pothole is a new risk to people using our roads, but in particular for #motorcyclesafety and #bikesafety. Lifetime value should be a factor in selecting repair treatments. National Day of Remembrance for Road Crash Victims is recognized by our group of companies as a day to take time to remember fellow Canadians who rely on us to make our roads safer. “In Canada, there are approximately 1,900 road fatalities and 150,000 injuries each year.” (Transport Canada). Thankfully, road safety in Canada is improving thanks to improved safety programs and collision prevention devices.   Crash testing is a way to evaluate the crashworthiness of roadside hardware that provides peace of mind to designers, owners and operators that the barriers we build will perform when it’s needed. We are invested in the development of roadside safety barriers and the accelerated adoption of MASH crash-tested barriers. One crash is too many. 

A very interesting debate here.... we recommend the guidelines produced for this project as a good read. The sensitivities are all in the context of the 'event' that caused harm. When you encounter a non-functioning traffic signal, it's crucial to treat the intersection as a stop sign. Yield the right of way and remain cautious. Such situations are common sites for accidents. Intersections are where some of the most serious collisions occur. #roadtips

Prior to the 1973 Oil Embargo shaking the world, highway policies were the same in the US, Sweden, and Denmark. All favored higher speeds. All had the same safety record. All required the same oil use of 43 megawatt-hours per person per year. Following the Embargo US policies continued with sprawl. Sweden/Denmark shifted to make streets safe for commerce, pedestrians, and bikes cutting per person oil use to 60% below the US and road-kills of bike riders and pedestrians to 400% below the US.
