#XDefiant is new #Overwatch. Ubisoft took their time to wait till Overwatch 2 will fail with single player campaign and now preparing for the jump. (As a part of wait process, XDefiant build was bad enough to be rejected from both Xbox and PS in first release attempt) TC Heartland also slowly preparing for the jump (The Division 1-2 Dark Zone as separate game) Skull & Bones (AC 4 mode), R6 Extraction (R6 mode), GR Frontline (PUBG clone), Hyper Scape (PUBG clone), Immortals Fenyx Rising (Genshin Impact clone) and The Crew 2 (Forza clone) failed the jump.

I do absolutely agree something needs to change. The Covid bump in sales, staffing, and game/team funding mixed with the response of stimulus checks generated a feeding frenzy for record profits and forecasts that were not built on stable models of growth year over year. Now we are seeing the industry correct itself for poor planning and knee jerk reactions. I’m expecting thing to be all good again in the next 6-18months. And ideally by November / December of 2025 we will see a decent trend of growth and stability again. It’s also good to note: video games industry is not the only group to go through this. Most of tech is in the same position. Let’s do better as a whole and not chase the dragon.
When PlayStation starts cutting jobs at their flagship first-party studios like Naughty Dog and Guerrilla, you know something is very wrong with the games business. It's time for a deep rethink of values, systems, models, and the industry at large. We can't keep doing things this way.

Epic Games is set to launch a new mobile storefront, marking a significant shift in its strategy after four years of legal battles with Apple and Google over app-store practices. In a recent discussion on "Bloomberg Technology," Josh Chapman, managing partner at Konvoy, provided valuable insights into this development. The move comes as Epic seeks to regain control over its distribution channels and reshape the mobile gaming landscape. This initiative could have far-reaching implications for developers and consumers alike, potentially challenging the existing app-store ecosystem dominated by major players. As the industry watches closely, the outcome of Epic's new venture could redefine mobile gaming distribution. #EpicGames #MobileGaming #AppStore #Fortnite #GamingIndustry ---------------------- Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/e8EqnKme

This is a huge deal. I grew up in the era of NES and SNES and Sega Genesis. The competitive landscape changed when Sony came in, bringing a new physical storage technology in the form of compact discs. Ever since then, they have been a mainstay and a major source of competition in an industry with fewer and fewer major players every year. If Sony’s own internal documents are stating they are moving into the future playing catch-up against the behemoth Microsoft. This does not bode well for a style of game creation that is incredibly attractive to we who love contained, well-written stories with gameplay that encourages the player to invest emotionally with the characters. #GamingNews #GamingIndustry #GamingCommunity #ConsoleGaming #FinanceInGaming #PCGaming

You know, I have a suspicion that gaming as an industry is not going to get better until GaaS dies. It's too much of a magnet for investors who want to make the next Fortnite. Therefore, they only see their audience as GaaS players and won't take a risk on something else, like a BG3 or a Hi-Fi Rush. I hope I'm wrong, but I can see this as a long fatal love chase (h/t Louisa May Alcott) that's going to keep stifling gaming innovation and creation for the near future. --- On edit May 11: I didn't expect this to blow up. I wrote this feeling surly about Tango and the other studios being slammed shut this week. The arguments raised in the comments got me thinking, and I want to explore this further. Assuming GaaS is sticking around, how do we make it something positive for studios and for players? How do we make sure other non-GaaS games get funded and player attention? How do we stop GaaS from becoming a predatory, addictive money grab? In short, how do we do it right?
