The United Way of Beaver County (UWBC) is thrilled to announce that Shell Polymers, Monaca has offered an additional $25,000 matching grant to the UWBC’s ALICE Fund! The ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) population, 38% of the households in Beaver County, is often overlooked when assistance is offered - they earn too much to qualify for most assistance programs, but not enough to afford the essentials that many of us take for granted. We must not overlook them. Any percentage is too high, but the fact that 38% of the households in Beaver County are struggling to put food on their table is alarming. We must do more to help them. Our recent $70,000 in Mini-Grant awards will help, but the need extends far beyond our current reach. We hope that Beaver County residents, companies, and small businesses will continue to support The ALICE Fund and the 2023/2024 Annual Campaign by becoming a new UWBC donor or, if a current UWBC donor, donating a little more this year to help ALICE. Good news for organisations in the third sector with charitable status as VAT relief on energy efficiency measures is being reinstated. Details are awaited but this is a step in the right direction that hopefully will help incentivise many who want to reduce their impact on the environment as well as their energy bills.
