Steve Van Till’s Post

Hardware first or AI first? It’s a question #Apple seems to be working through right now and one I think is currently affecting the #AccessControl industry, albeit backwards. After all, no one is choosing their phone based on the AI assistant inside but rather the camera quality, battery life, etc. So, in terms of access control, which comes first? Hardware, Software, AI, or User Experience?

Currently, ease of installation and hardware seem to come first. Future (my hope) is user experience rules the day. Both the day to day entry user and the security user - the identity layer and the operator layer. Both have unique requirements and desire - for too long they have been mutually exclusive. When this duel UX unlock takes place (some are close) it’ll be a fantastic breakthrough.

For most systems, starting with a clear understanding of user experience, followed by a coordinated approach to hardware and software development, and then integrating AI as needed, provides a balanced strategy that ensures both functionality and user satisfaction. Ultimately, it depends on the specific goals and context of the access control project.

Hardware that can scale to the resources AI needs for today as well as tomorrow... so you know... The Cloud.
