Grateful for the opportunity to be a panelist at today's Becoming TECH Part I, where I engaged with current and prospective Flatiron School students. My College Start: First Semester Vibes 📚 Hey guys, I just wanted to share a little piece of my heart as I reflect on my first semester at LaGuardia Community College. Before I started, I had all these worries about whether Computer Science was the right choice. You know, the whole "Is there even a demand for IT jobs?" and "Am I making the right decision with AI on the rise?" kind of thing. But let me tell you, stepping into college changed everything. The journey kicked off with doubts, but the support I found here turned those doubts into hope. The faculty? They were our guiding stars—always supportive and incredibly helpful. Their encouragement and belief in us made all the difference. Knowing some people genuinely care about your success? It's a game-changer. As I went through my first semester, I looked around and saw my fellow students rocking their own unique stories. It hit me—there's no 'too late' in this journey. We're all on our own timelines, and that's okay. LaGuardia's community showed me that success doesn't have a deadline. Now, I'm standing here, feeling grateful for the lessons, the friendships, and the challenges conquered. It's not a race against time; it's a journey of personal and professional growth. To go to college, or to not go to college. I 100% missed this single key factor when I made my decision: There is lot of debate in the entrepreneurial community if college makes sense anymore for the money. I'm not going to advocate for a certain side, but I am going to recommend high school graduates thinking about business school consider something most don't when selecting a school: The city matters as much as the university. Here is why👇 When I reflect on my college experience, the greatest learnings came from outside the classroom. Where was I learning exactly? From the businesses that surrounded our university at California State University, Chico. I interned, I shadowed, I did class projects, all with these local businesses that opened their doors and let students into their operations. It was the real world. Not something out of a book. Having a strong community of businesses large and small, close by to your university, creates the ultimate learning playground for business school. So if you are set on going to business school, I recommend considering the city as much as you consider the university. Big thanks to Chico businesses for teaching me so much when I was there 🚀
