It's been a good month for publications in the group (3/3):   From her PhD, Domenica Braile experimentally measured sintering dynamics of chocolate spheres, using optical and IR cameras to observe bridge growth and temperature evolution: https://lnkd.in/eBnXQjPZ A semi-empirical model including temperature dependent viscosity was developed to describe the experimental trends of particle size, and air temperature effects.

Pleased to announce Tyler Sodia's newest paper is published in ACS Sensors. He incorporated persistent luminescence nanoparticles (glow-in-the-dark nanoparticles) into our sensor platform to make glow sensors! They avoid most biological autofluorescence because we can measure after normal fluorescence decays to just measure the signal from our sensors. He demonstrated this approach with sensors for sensors for K+, Na+, Ca2+, pH, and O2. https://lnkd.in/gpVQ_yu4

The MAX IV Laboratory is a Swedish national synchrotron laboratory that has operated as a user facility since 2016. MAX IV offers access to 16 beamlines that provide modern X-ray spectroscopy, scattering/diffraction, and imaging techniques to contribute to solving scientific questions in a wide range of areas. MAX IV is the first worldwide realisation of a fourth-generation light source, which has opened opportunities to develop experimental techniques based on outstanding brightness and coherence. The beamlines are open to academia, research institutes, industry, and government agencies worldwide through the user access programs. MAX IV welcomes 1700+ users annually, expected to double in the coming years. Visit from the German university HAWK - University of Applied Science and Arts From the German university came a visit in the composition of prof. Christoph Gerhard, Dr. George Avramidis, Dr. Martin Bellmann and Mcs. Andreas Tuemmel (who spent a week at our institute in March 2024). Together with dr. Kelar and dr. Kelar Tučeková are working on the project: Functionalization of fibers by plasma-assisted deposition of layers under #atmospheric pressure and advanced analysis of layer thickness by #laser-#excited #plasma #spectroscopy (8J23DE002).

Happy about our newest results on all-attosecond pump-probe spectroscopy, which we did at a repetition rate of 1 kHz for the first time. Visit from FORTH to UNIVIE by Thanasis Athanasiou In the context of FORGreenSoft, Thanasis Athanasiou (FORTH) visited the laboratory of professor Roberto Cerbino’s Group at the University of Vienna, Austria, from the 19th till the 24th of February 2024. The aim of this visit was the acquisition of knowhow on the development of: a) a shear rheometer (shear cell) with optical access to the sample; b) a camera triggering device for use in conjunction with a rheometer. Specific experiments were also performed to test the validity of the developed devices.

I would like to share with you the link of a recently published paper of the Optics Group in colaboration with Raiane S. Araujo (Mackenzie Presbyterian University), and Jamal Rafique, Sumbal Saba and Luis M. G. Abegão (from Federal University of Goias). In this study, we investigated theoretically the potential of a set of pseudo-stilbene and azobenzene molecular structures to become optical frequency converters for optical communications. Super excited that my very first publication, "Maximizing the reliability and precision of measures of prefrontal cortical oxygenation using frequency-domain near-infrared spectroscopy" was the most notable article from the Optical Sensors section of Sensors MDPI in March and May! Looking forward to continuing the work with FD-NIRS and its applications to sport-related head impacts in the rest of my thesis.

Explore the latest #OpenAccess article in the #ACRT journal by Wiebke Drews, Prof. Dr. Stefan Turek, and Dr. Christoph Lohmann from TU Dortmund University. Their work presents a new time-simultaneous multigrid solver, developed to improve the efficiency and accuracy of solving convection-dominated transport problems in 1D. This method is particularly beneficial for handling small diffusion coefficients in #ConvectionDiffusion equations.
