Marshmallow Challenge – 202 cohort (This cohort has been together since fall of 2019!) Each team was given a kit with the following items: 2 pieces of uncooked spaghetti, 1 yard of masking tape, 1 yard of string, 1 large marshmallow. The challenge was to make the tallest free-standing tower using only these materials. The marshmallow had to be on the top. Many teams have done this challenge from all walks of life. The best towers tend to come from engineers (of course) and kindergartners. Yes, kindergartners The purpose of this activity is to demonstrate the value of teamwork and to value cooperative problem solving.

"Years ago, I was recruiting at Braums and we had hired a former Waffle House employee. Throughout her training, she kept comparing everything to how things were done at Waffle House, insisting that their methods were superior. Every step of the way, she would say, 'At Waffle House, we did it this way...' Finally, the manager had had enough and took her to the window, pointing at the Braums sign outside. 'What do you see?' Day 3 starts to add some substance to the evaluations and the team building process overall. When adding additional pieces its important to factor in what already exists. In the ocean, everything at all levels works together seamlessly. 🦈#TeamBuilding #TalentManagement #Recruiting #SharkWeek

My opponent in squash was 10 minutes late yesterday. Not the end of the world, but kind of annoying and the court allotments are only for 40 minutes. This happens in business a lot, particularly with meetings. When a 9:00 AM meeting doesn't start until 9:10 or 9:15 because people are trickling in a little late, that is a lot of wasted time. To make it worse, that wasted time is multiplied by all those in attendance at the meeting. Update: It's the last day of the competitive clothing drive. At the end of last week, our team (the Spoons) was falling behind and had dropped to the second spot. We gave each other a rallying pep talk, shared some words of encouragement and WOW check out that Monday/Tuesday pile of clothes around the Spoons table (far right, light blue). I love the teamwork mentality we have at Blue Compass. We all pitch in and work together toward our shared vision (which in this case is most definitely winning). In fact, this whole clothing drive is possible because of our team mentality. Any given year we have 8-12 crews that people can sign up for if they are interested in helping plan and organize events, holidays, etc. It gives everyone the chance to dedicate a little extra time to their favorite things, and build camaraderie with their peers who share common interests. The clothing drive was put on by our fabulous "Moral Compass" crew, formerly known as the volunteer crew. Would you be surprised if I told you that they have three creatives on their team?
