What are those 'challenging' goals that you set yourself for this year?
How commited to them are you?
What are you saying "No" to,,,, so that you acheive them?
One of the goals that I set myself this year is to run the Amsterdam marathon. The race is on 20th Oct ....
''Eek!'' it's getting quite close and my training hasn't really been up to schedule.
I did take my running shoes on vacation to Corfu for a couple of weeks,,,, but it was 30C at night,,,, so they stayed in my bag. :-/
So, last week on returning to NL I needed to double check with myself,,, do I still want to run the marathon?
In my 30's I ran some (10) marathons and I really love (almost) everything about them,,,, the challenge, the crowds, the togetherness with the other runners, the challenge, the runners high hit of endorphines, the challenge, the unique ever changing views of a city, the challenge, the finish line,,,,, AND the pint of guiness at the nearest Irish bar after the finish line. :-))
NOTE: The part I don't love is the 'pain',,,, knees / hips / ankles etc... especially between 25 - 35 km ... I remember this too.
So on reflection about this goal & particularly the 'challenge', I've decided that ''YES'', I am still commited to it.
But now,,, it's only 2 months away and it's 12 years since my last one, so I started wondering what to say "No" to, to give me the best chance of reaching the finish line... and here are my No's :
1. I decided to say ''No'' to playing soccer until after the marathon. This is a painful ''No'', because I ABSOLUTELY LOVE soccer and play (with my team mates) every Friday evening. But soccer aches, pains and injuries would probably stop my running training, so it seems like a good 'No'.
2. I decided to say ''No'' to drinking alcohol until after the marathon. This doesn't seem a very painful ''No'',,,, but still I enjoy a few beers and a couple of glasses of wine in social settings,,, so it will be a different experience for me too and I'm really curious about what emerges from this 'No'.
Now... I'm back from holidays for 1 week,,,, and I ran 3 times (5 - 10 km,) had 2 boot camps... zero alcohol :-) and played zero soccer :-/
I'm so looking forward to this challenging goal,, I gotta feeling that I'll make the finish line in Amsterdam and I'm also looking forward to that pint of guiness in a close by Irish bar and definitely to my next game of soccer with my mates.
I'm curious,,, what are your (challenging) goals? How commited are you? What are you saying 'No' to, so that you meet them?
