Do you need technology for every problem? This past weekend I went to the library and saw this innovative solution -- a pinboard and keychains -- to make it easier for folks to borrow items for arts and crafts. The positive friction of going to a central location is great for building community, cheaper, zero downtime, and, frankly, a lot of fun. With tech solutions for every other problem, it is important to ask: do we really need this? The last thing we need is tech for the sake of tech.

Ever since I started my skool community I've been approached now by 6 people who want to start a community to build around their expertise or their course/coaching. Building a community is awesome but I'll be upfront, it takes a lot of effort. It starts with you showing up daily, planning out what to put inside the community/courses. And spending a ton of time into it before any traction starts. but like any other business venture, you MUST commit to it. Commit to it hardcore discipline and planning. Even though I'm not investing anymore, I'm still continuing to do a lot of community for the tech community in NYC. Occasionally, I worry that people won't show up because I'm not an active VC. I sent invites this week for a dinner series of active first-check investor types who are angels and from smaller funds and already got a windfall of responses and recommendations to others, which reminds me of a few things that I think continue to hold true about networking and community building... a) It never hurts to ask, even if you think the answer will be no. b) There are far more people willing to show up to something than people willing to do the work to organize. c) If you do build a reputation for bringing good people together, don't do anything to lose it and don't abuse it--because people are blindly trusting you with their time.

I don't care about squeezing every last drop of time out of my day. I don't care about achieving "peak productivity" like a machine. I'm not interested in squandering my time on unproductive tasks. I'm interested in the pursuit of purpose: building a thriving business, assisting entrepreneurs in their success and impact, and striving to leave my community (and the world) better than I found it. That's what I'm all about. That's what entrepreneurship is all about. Massive outputs. Maximum efficiency.

🛑 If you haven't read the story time in my last post...stop here + do that so this all makes sense. For those who have read "my life your entertainment..." here is what I want you to take from that: 👥 Community is ESSENTIAL in this founder journey. Build a community around yourself you can learn from but also one you can pour back into. We love mutually beneficial relationships around here. And once again "If you want to go fast go alone, if you want to go far go together." 🙏🏾 Give yourself grace. You don't know what you don't know + every hardship along the way is an opportunity to learn something that will ultimately push you + your startup forward eventually...."a setback is a setup for a comeback." 💥 Don't be afraid to fail. You're probably going to 🙊 up often actually....but make sure you fail fast + forward. Oh! And learn something....don't make the same mistake twice if you can help it. 💨 Keep going. Hardships will come. The journey will get rocky. But trouble doesn't last always. That being said may the rest of 2024 be the year that you get accustomed to making "bold moves." (this is a note to myself)
