I left my first job. I became an Air Traffic Controller for my first job in my career. On 20th December 2022, with a heavy heart, I decided to move on to pursue my passion of being a Software Engineer. My 3 key takeaways from taking a high-pressure and high-stress role: 1. Teamwork makes the dream work. Every single ATC working in a shift is needed for all aircrafts to move safely and efficiently. It is crucial for everyone to have each other’s back when shift starts, till the shift ends. 2. Confidence is key. With proper training and experience, ATCs become more and more confident each day to execute the daily task of getting everyone to their desired destination safely. Proper training includes knowing all the procedures that is in accordance to ICAO standards. Only with confidence in knowing the procedures can one be confident in pushing tin. 3. Communication. In providing air traffic services, proper coordination between controllers is part and parcel of the job. As a junior controller, It can be daunting to articulate your plans to the more senior ones. With time, I became more comfortable to better communicate with my seniors when coordinating. All in all, I loved my time there but my watch has ended. All the best to my fellow controllers. Thank you for your service keeping the skies safe. #atc #airtrafficcontrol #airtrafficservice #softwareengineer #training #communication #teamwork

How to become A FLIGHT DISPATCHER A flight dispatcher is a crucial member of the aviation industry. They are responsible for planning and monitoring flights, ensuring that they operate safely and efficiently. If you are interested in becoming a flight dispatcher, here are the steps you can take to achieve your goal: 1. Meet the educational requirements To become a flight dispatcher, you need to have a high school diploma or equivalent. However, most airlines prefer candidates with a bachelor's degree in aviation management, air traffic control, or a related field. It is also important to have a solid understanding of mathematics and physics. 2. Get trained After meeting the educational requirements, you need to undergo training to become a flight dispatcher. Most airlines offer their own training programs, which typically last between 3-6 months. During the training, you will learn about flight planning, weather analysis, navigation, and communication procedures. You will also learn about the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) regulations or the Civil Aviation Authority regulations of your country and how to comply with them. 3. Obtain certification and License After completing the training, you need to obtain certification from the FAA. To become a certified flight dispatcher, you need to pass a written exam and a practical test. The written exam covers topics such as weather analysis, navigation, and aircraft performance. The practical test involves demonstrating your ability to plan and monitor flights. 4. Gain experience After obtaining certification, you need to gain experience as a flight dispatcher. Most airlines require at least two years of experience before hiring a flight dispatcher. During this time, you will learn about the airline's operations, procedures, and culture. You will also have the opportunity to work with pilots, air traffic controllers, and other aviation professionals. 5. Stay up-to-date As a flight dispatcher, it is important to stay up-to-date with the latest regulations, technologies, and industry trends. You can do this by attending conferences, reading industry publications, and participating in training programs. In conclusion, becoming a flight dispatcher requires a combination of education, training, certification, experience, and ongoing learning. If you are passionate about aviation and have a strong attention to detail, becoming a flight dispatcher may be the perfect career for you. #FlightDispatchers
