Steve, what an impactful story. Nice what you have done for your Mother’s memory and to support cancer patients. Take good care of yourself. Best. Peter
What a day that was!
As I reflect on ‘23, a huge highlight was the support and help I received from family, friends and even strangers on my walk to honour my late Mom and raise £$ for Guys Cancer.
53+ km walked
250+ people donated
20+ friends walking alongside - from all aspects of my life
2 newspaper coverage
30 minute BBC London radio show
67,000 steps
The radio interviewer (Eddie Nestor) kept asking me how I FEEL. Aaargh! But all I can say is that I am happy and grateful for all the support from so many.

Want to walk with me on November 30th for part or even all of the walk? Let me know.
HELP ME HONOUR MY MOM, SUSAN, BY RAISING MONEY FOR GUYS CANCER
It will be fifty years on November 30th.
50 years since my mom, Susan, passed away from breast cancer in 1973. She fought it hard, for seven years from her first diagnosis while she was pregnant with my sister, Stacy. That was a lifetime in the late 60s.
Susan was always a fighter. Bronx girls usually are. Eloped at nineteen. Mother at twenty-one. Mother and cancer survivor at twenty-four. Divorced, working mom of two at twenty-five. Susan celebrated six years of being a cancer survivor but, sadly, she left us in November, 1973 at only 31 years old. Everyone thought there was still a lifetime ahead of her.
You can meet Susan for yourself in this clip from a 1972 tv show on breast cancer, in which Susan courageously took part.

It will be fifty years on November 30th.
Susan left behind a legacy of fighters. Her sister, only 26 at the time, traded in her Aunt Judy role for motherhood, adopting both Stacy and me in addition to two children of her own, bringing us all up in NJ. She has made the most of her lifetime but without a sister.
It will be fifty years on November 30th.
Stacy - only 7 when our Mom died - has conquered life. Successful educator, wife, mother of two - she has given back to the community her whole life by teaching children less fortunate than most. She has made the most of her lifetime, without either of her parents.
I was 10 and a half years old that day. Back then, little or nothing was done to coach or counsel kids whose parents have cancer. Sadly, I believe this is still largely true today. I was bright for my age, but immature, some would say that profile has stuck through all these years. Very fortunate that my mom’s family - especially Judy - sheltered us a bit and let us catch a breath before soldiering on. A cancer survivor myself, I know now how big a factor genetics plays. I have tried to make the most of my lifetime but would naturally love to have had the chance to share with my Mom the ups and downs of my life and those of my daughter, Susan, and wife, Margo.
It will be fifty years on November 30th. 2023.
On this day I will be honouring my mom by walking FIFTY kilometres (THIRTY-ONE miles – a mile for every year of her life) along the Thames from Walton-on-Thames, through my adopted hometown of London. We will finish at the front door of Guy’s Cancer.
We would appreciate you honouring my mom through a donation to Guy’s Cancer. Help me to raise £100,000 for the Guy’s Cancer Centre where the money will go directly to the care of the next generation of women and especially the care and counselling of their kids.

100 days, 18 states, and 5,300+ miles later, our journey across America has come to an end. We are so incredibly thankful for all of the support we have received over the past 100 days and the amazing people we've met along the way. With all of your support, we've been able to raise over $585,000!
And although the ride may be over, we are going to continue to fundraise throughout the month of September and strive for the goal of raising $640,000 to support the PKD Foundation with critically-needed funding for research into polycystic kidney disease.
