When and how to run a billboard campaign As someone who’s only worked on product-oriented growth, I’ve never had a chance to learn about the logic behind advertising out in the real world, and what kind of impact you can see from these levers. In today's 🔥🔥🔥 newsletter, Reed McGinley-Stempel shares lessons (and actual impact numbers) from basically every startup that's running billboards in the Bay Area, including Notion, Ramp, Vanta, Rippling, Canva, Brex, Writer, Bland AI, Statsig, and Stytch. With every post in my newsletter, I try to offer the most definitive advice on a topic, and I believe this is that for billboard advertising. Even if you don't have Series B funding and/or a product with a 5-6 figure average contract value, OOH advertising can still have a positive ROI if you can successfully target your ICP :)
Such a great roundup! We loved putting Statsig in the SF skyline 👏🏻 We couldn’t have made such a big leap without Kasper Koczab at Brex and chatting to some of the key players mentioned here, including Stytch!
Great article and thanks for the mention! Love to see all these awesome companies having fun with OOH campaigns, we know we did 👏🏻
Love to see so many Brex customers becoming OOH experts 🎉, with Reed McGinley-Stempel at the helm, given this collaborative piece. Thanks, Lenny Rachitsky, for giving this old-school medium a fresh look and taking it from the streets to the feeds!
OOH billboards are my favorite ads, it's funny how many times I've taken a photo of a neat billboard ad Lenny :)
Lenny Rachitsky it would be great to have such a guide to TV campaigns ;)
I just want to take a second to thank you for all your amazing content throughout the years. I’ve benefited tremendously from the knowledge you share, and I know I’m not alone. Good job stepping outside of your comfort zone to do the pod as well.
Thanks, Lenny! Had a great time putting this together for the newsletter, and the participation from all the other companies running billboards in the bay was awesome
You have to solve two problems: How to find people to buy your product & what product they want to buy. DM me on how to solve both.
1moBillboard advertising is massively underrated for startups. It doesn't work for everyone, but there is still a ton of upside. Love seeing this get more attention.
