Why don’t we see more independent politicians running for political office in India?
Turns out there are systemic issues that restrict candidates to contest other than the obvious resources required.
While we know it’a not a level playing field, did you know independent candidates face legal & compliance hurdles too?
Why don't we have more people running and contesting in India's general elections as independent? Maybe because the system is entirely too unfair. Now, I'm not just talking about the political power and the mass mobilization that's required, but when you think about the restrictions that are in place for an independent candidate versus a candidate from a political party, it's just totally unfair. So let's first of all talk about funding. Now, you all know that there's a 95 lack limitation on each candidate, but a political party can actually spend unlimited amounts on any region that they want to, including their own. Candidates in that respective campaign, there's no restriction or limitations. On top of that, an independent candidate will only know the election symbol that he or she is supposed to fight on 2 1/2 weeks before the actual voting day. Whereas a political party candidate knows their symbol two, 3-4 months in advance whenever the political party wants to announce. On top of that, there's severe limitations and come in terms of paperwork and campaigning that an independent candidate has to go through that a political party. Candidate does not. Maybe that's why people and the independent culture of contesting elections is going down.
Understanding the way justice works in India is like unraveling a layered journey. Starting at trial courts, moving up through district and high courts, and finally reaching the Supreme Court – it's a step-by-step climb towards fairness, truth, and upholding the law. Each level plays a crucial role in ensuring justice prevails.
