🌟 Wrapping Up Week 2 of the Young Innovator Internship Challenge (YIIC)! 🌟 With this week’s session coming to an end, we had an inspiring heart-to-heart conversation with Yash Dandavate sir, who shared invaluable insights from his journey, including running brand campaigns for giants like PepsiCo and Nestlé, becoming a LinkedIn Top Voice, and co-founding a startup at 19. 🏆 🗣️ Key Takeaways: 🌟 Build a powerful personal brand. 💼 Stand out on professional networks like LinkedIn. 🚀 Get a head start in your career. During our discussion, I reflected on my personal brand, which I've unconsciously developed over the years, and learned about a powerful thought process: - What you see and observe → Influences what you think - What you think → Shapes how you feel - How you feel → Determines what you say or don't say - All these influences and → Lead to actions Looking back at this week, something I personally faced (and that we touched upon in the session) is a common challenge many of us encounter in our journey: the "Setback Valley." Often, when trying new things and wanting quick results, we may feel like failures if we don't achieve instant success. However, it's crucial to remember that anything meaningful takes time. We must be patient and enjoy the process without worrying too much about the results. Gary Vee's quote, “The bigger the ambition, the slower you need to be,” resonates deeply with me, since I’m embarking on a four-year journey in Computer Science with specific goals in mind; consistency is what matters over brief periods of intense effort. 🔑 Gathering Key Players in Our Community 🔑 Recently, I had the privilege of bringing together influential family business owners from our community at the UCI ANTrepreneur Center. Our goal? To brainstorm how the ANTrepreneur Center and especially, UCI undergraduates, can better support and uplift local family-owned enterprises. Did you know? 📊 👉 Family businesses account for 64% of the U.S. gross domestic product. 👉 They generate 62% of the country's employment and account for 78% of all new job creation. (Source: Conway Center for Family Business) Many students may not have family businesses at the top of their radar. But with their immense impact on our economy, we're on a mission to bridge that gap. Hey Again, LinkedIn Fam, so Midwest ACE conference day 2 and 3 recaps coming up. Yesterday was so jam packed I ran out of steam last night to share some takeaways, so I will reflect a bit on takeaways from yesterday and then create a separate post with some highlights from today. Day 2 started out with some helpful hot off the presses data updates from National Association of Colleges and Employers. Some insights/reminders for me were: *Being data informed is important and to build pathways and capacity to collect/review/disseminate data from our campuses across demographics to identify strengths and opportunities for growth and change to more successfully and equitably support students and alumni. *Connecting with career services adds value and experiences that build skills and expertise are needed as a key ingredient to standing out to potential employers and the emphasis on GPA as a deciding factor continues to decline. *Emerging professionals want job security, salary equity (and regular increases/pathways for growth) and a healthy 401k among other factors. Being in the office to build connection is important (especially for new professionals), and hybrid work is here to stay * #unpaidisunfair Internships should be paid. Soooo much good info from NACE!! Thank you Shawn VanDerziel and Stephanie Pallante for a robust presentation and overview. Breakout session takeaways included: *You can build the plane while flying it when ot comes to experiential learning, you need to build a coalition of the willing, a long runway (backwards design) and build in some flexibility to customize when working with different campus partners *On boarding is key, leaders should be involved, AI may be able to help, and we all need to be celebrated and need to know what it feels like to feel supported, appreciated, cheered on, and seen. *Midwest ACE has some amazing board and committee leaders and the DEI committee was wonderful to connect with. Lots of opportunities to get involved and the committee level is a great place to start!!

So, my internship journey at NFQ is like, whoa, what a ride! I never thought I'd make it this far, but here I am, dropping my second post about my time at NFQ 🤗 "𝐎𝐩𝐞𝐧-𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐝 & 𝐬𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞" are the vibes I get from NFQ-ers. A friend shared with me that she doesn't think she could work with 8x generations 'cause they're on a different wavelength. But at NFQ, there's no generation gap. Everyone's cool, and we can all speak our minds. Even me, a newbie intern, gets to share my thoughts and get feedback. And get this, sometimes they're more up-to-date on social media trends than me, a Gen Z-er :’’) (no joke). "𝐀𝐩𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝" is what I've experienced here. My colleagues have had my back since day one. I'm not just picking up skills from my leader and HR crew but also from colleagues in other departments and locations. They could easily ignore me, but nah, they're all about giving me tips, from tech stuff to soft skills. And when I mess up, they don't come down on me. Instead, they're all about gentle guidance. I truly appreciated how I can learn from them. "𝐁𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐟!" is the motto I've picked up from my NFQ-ers. Back in school, I was in a bunch of clubs, projects, and part-time jobs, but NFQ is my first taste of the real business world. So, naturally, I was freaking out. I thought I had to act like someone else to fit in. But then, my leader, my leader’s boss, and even my colleagues were like, "𝘑𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘣𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶!" Why? Because at NFQ, they're all about respecting individuality. No matter your age, gender, or whether you're newbie or experienced, you're welcome here.
