The Menara Peninsula Hotel continues its commitment to give positive impact to the environment by participating in the #zerofoodwaste movement. By partnering with FoodCycle Indonesia and DBS Bank Indonesia, the Menara Peninsula contributes to the Food Rescue Warrior campaign and has successfully donated over 100 kg of food to those in need. According to data from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Indonesia produced approximately 19.56 million tons of waste in 2023, with the majority, or 41.4%, coming from food waste. Through the Food Rescue Warrior program, the Menara Peninsula strives to address the issue of food surplus causing waste by ensuring responsible production and consumption patterns. This initiative aligns with the Menara Peninsula's commitment to SDGs, particularly Goal 12, focusing on responsible consumption and production. Since March 2024, this program has also contributed to reducing hunger levels in the community. 🌱 Investments in sustainable and transparent value chains are essential to preserve forests and biodiversity. Hailed as 'superfruits', aguaje and camu camu contribute to the Amazonian tropical ecosystem's protection and support local communities' livelihoods. Seeing the opportunity to promote sustainable land use, AJE group piloted a sustainable superfruit harvesting project with eight communities, processing it into Amayu juice. P4F helped scale the model. AJE is a success story in scaling a community-focused and sustainable superfood juice to a transparent and resilient value chain. In partnership with P4F, AJE Group expanded the initiative to 22 communities, creating income for Amazonian communities and championing forest protection and biodiversity. 📚 Read the full case study in English, Portuguese, or Spanish: https://lnkd.in/ekdqFT5E #Biodiversity #Superfoods #SocialImpact #SustainableValueChain #Peru

🎉 Four years of celebrating World Bee Day - what a journey it has been! 🐝 At Tosama, this day holds special significance as we reflect on our partnership with nature's finest artisans - bees. As alternative food sources that benefit the environment increase in prominence, NIRAS has been on the front foot, empowering communities in managing food security while diversifying their income through the establishment of locally led social enterprises. A major example of our work in this field involves the Spirulina Aquacultural Farms in Tarabitan and Yogyakarta, Indonesia. 🌏 Spirulina is an algae with a range of benefits. It is rich in nutrients and absorbs carbon dioxide during photosynthesis. In addition, it can provide a new source of sustainable income for local communities while supporting ecosystems with endangered species such as dugongs. 🌊 Throughout January, locals in Tarabitan and Yogyakarta have been equipped and trained in NIRAS-managed workshops on developing and running a sustainable social enterprise. 🧭 A total of five workshops have been successfully run, with one more to go. The photo below shows one of Yogyakarta's social enterprise sessions with our team working with local people in their new aquaculture farm. Moreover, by equipping local people to diversify their income, the wider community can benefit from a new nutritious product while helping the environment! 👩🏾🤝🧑🏾 Funded by the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP), the project allows for some of the highest quality Spirulina aquaculture farms while empowering locals to broaden their income opportunities. NIRAS works to deliver a high standard of project implementation to ensure the longevity of participating farms through the development of high-quality products that benefit the long-term financial goals of each community. 💚 #NIRASProjects #Spirulina #Indonesia

Story time! Umah Pupa's insect and poultry farm has started from our own backyard. A few years back, we developed a passion for sustainable living and a drive to do something on the waste problem around us. 🐛🐔 We always dreamed about having our own big farm, so we did experiments in our house on how to raise chickens and maintaining Black Soldier Fly's life cycle. Raising chickens and Black Soldier Flies let us connect with our food, reduce food waste, and learn to manage the organic waste. 🚜♻️ Yet our neighbors were quite confused, how on -earth- is there a chicken coop on a cluster housing?? 🤣🤣 Fast forward a year later, we seized an opportunity. We found a partner that had the 15-acres space in Gianyar to built the big farm that we had envisioned for years. That means move our family from Jakarta to Bali and start a new life phase here. ✈️ Our first farming year was bumpy yet satisfactory, but there was much we didn’t know. When we inevitably made mistakes, we tried to learn from them. Farming is a humbling experience and teaches you a lot about animals and even yourself. 👨🌾👩🌾 Looking forward for loads of learning and experiences as we progress. Excited how the future brings to us! 🥳 #visitfarm #insectfarming #blacksoldierfly #wastemanagement #organicwaste #sustainable #upcycle #farm #agriculture #umahpupa #insectfeed #animalfeed #organic
