💥The updated Gelato Festival World Ranking has officially crowned the following three as the world's best ice creams: 1) Adám Fazekas of the ‘Fazekas Cukrászda’ ice-cream shop in Budapest, Hungary; 2) Giovanna Bonazzi with ‘La Parona del gelato’, located in Parona, a town in the province of Verona. 3) Savannah G. Lee, owner of ‘Savannah's Gelato-Kitchen’ in San Francisco, California. But just down the podium there are other Italian gelato spots. In the fourth place is Massimiliano Scotti, with ‘Vero Latte’ in Vigevano (Pavia) followed by Maurizio Melani, an Italian who lives and works in Spain, in Valencia. Next are Fabio Forghieri from Correggio (Reggio Emilia) and Leonardo La Porta in Turin. Then we find Carlo Guerriero in Cadiz (Spain), Paolo Pomposi in Florence and Fabrizio Fenu in Cagliari. All these professionals are in the Top Ten, which is dominated by Italy. 💪 Giulia Rossi, judge and project manager of the Carpigiani Group (a leading company in the sector) commented on the verdicts, saying that ‘Summing up after 13 years of competitions, what emerges is the ever-increasing commitment of gelato makers to researching ingredients, studying balancing techniques and creating their own unique style, which has been rewarded internationally’. I was at Melbourne. For a business meeting. I managed to do hop onto a Gin Distillery Tour at Four Pillars Gin. Been a fan of the gin since my first sip. I received one as a gift years ago. Watched a documentary on the founding before. Since then, I thought it would be nice to pop by and have a look. The brand name, along with her iconic “four dots” represent the brand’s four key pillars: A quality still. Top-notch botanicals. Pristine water from the Yarra Valley. And love. Their success was largely due to the power of branding and marketing. Well, the narratives were charming. Still, it’s good gin. They are the first gin distillery to achieve carbon neutrality in Australia — on both product certification and organisation certification. Which means every bottle of gin is carbon neutral and as a business, Four Pillars has managed to bring their carbon emissions down to zero. Four Pillars was founded in 2013. Lion Group, a subsidiary of Japanese alcohol giant Kirin, has acquired the business for 50 million in 2023. Four years after owning half of the business for 40 million in 2019. They have so many variants now. I returned with a bottle of highly sought after “Bloody Shiraz”, and an iconic “Not Gin” bottle.
