Thoughts on the new Honda logo: Well done. Simple, minimal, modern and on-brand. Retro turned modern, which is a huge design trend (which is good for branding and won’t be going away anytime soon). It’s a modern adaptation of an old identity mark, a thoughtful evolution rooted in their historical brand narrative. Eliminates the unnecessary without sacrificing the visual brand equity they’ve built. It’s always amusing to me, though, the story big brands try to tell with a new brand identity. They’re almost always so fluffy, and clearly developed retroactively to the design process. Some people love the (made-up) symbolism (like Honda saying the top do the H represent open hands). But it’s just fluff. What do you think?

My honest thoughts on building a brand that uses trendy design elements… Don’t do it! Chasing trends will only land you in a whirlwind of redesigns… over and over and over. Instead, I recommend taking a more timeless approach with your branding because this helps to build brand recognition, and will yield assets that continually work for you for years to come.
