Christmas is a special time for many, a time for friends and family. But for all too many people, Christmas can be a difficult time, a time where isolation and loneliness can be amplified. On leaving the Armed Forces, many find the transition to civy street a difficult time. It can be a lonely time trying to forge a new life outside of the Armed Forces family - even more so when your time in the Armed Forces is cut short due to injury, illness and deeper battles. This is why support pathways for Veterans are so important. As well as receiving the support and guidance needed, they can then link in with the SWV Veteran Support Network, so that loneliness and isolation is less of a problem. This time of year highlights even more the need for Veterans Charities, so Veterans can reach out and feel supported. To find out more about the Veteran support pathways on offer, please click on the link below... https://lnkd.in/guWgFtXT To donate- Text VETERANS to 70470 to donate £10 Or VETERANS20 to donate £20

Armed Forces personnel are known for their strength, their courage, their ability to face tough times and just keep pushing through. So recognising that you need help and support can be a hard realisation to face - and reaching out and actually asking for that help can feel difficult. In fact, it takes a brave person to ask for help. It takes strength and courage to recognise that you need support and to actually ask for it - it's a step that can often feel impossible. And that is why it is important to know what support options are out there. So for Veterans attending the Ski-habilitation Week, not only is it a place of support and guidance, but it can be the first stepping stone on the way back to a fuller and more positive future. https://lnkd.in/guWgFtXT To donate- Text VETERANS to 70470 to donate £10 Or VETERANS20 to donate £20

Each year, Wawa, Inc. teams up with the USO and local members of the Air and Army National Guard for the annual tradition known as Operation Taste of Home, where together, they assemble care packages. This year, as #VeteransDay approaches, this annual tradition continues as Wawa associates, members of the Wawa Veterans’ Alliance and members of the USO and Pennsylvania National Guard plan to assemble more than 10,000 care packages that will be sent to service members stationed abroad. The Wawa Foundation will also be presenting the USO with a check for over a million dollars raised through customer donations! These campaigns make it easy for customers to donate and show that even small amounts can make a big difference — often totaling millions of dollars. Yes, believe it or not, that small change you donate as you make your purchase can actually make a huge difference in the lives of American service members, military spouses and military children. #TheUSO’s corporate partnerships help to fund major USO programs that support service members and their families — programs that keep them connected while they are stationed or deployed anywhere in the world.

Happy Veterans Day! We should all take a moment to reflect on what we can do to support veterans everywhere. How can we use our votes, our time, our charitable contributions, and our personal relationships to support our warriors after they come home. The sacrifice most people think about happens on the battlefield, but the sacrifices veterans make doesn't stop there. And so we must raise awareness and fight for the rights and wellness of those who were willing to fight for us. Give them comfort, support, and care. Respect their sacrifice with more than words because they honored their commitment to us with more than words. And stand by them even when it would be more easy to look the other way or forget the incredible gift they gave us, to live free and at peace. Consider this, over the ~20 years our troops were at war in Afghanistan, we lost 6, 241 U.S. lives on the battlefield. However, the more striking statistic is when you discover that we currently are losing more veterans to suicide every year, than that total number of battlefield casualties over 20 years. Between 16-22 veterans are lost to suicide every single day and have been for every day since 2001 when the war on terror began. This is the cost of war and this is why we must do better to support our veterans after they come home. So this Veterans Day, I ask you to consider supporting the Wounded Warriors Project, Flanders Field, or another non-profit of your choice that defends, cares for, and supports our troops after they return home with wounds they will carry for a lifetime. https://lnkd.in/eVPkuwY4 https://lnkd.in/etD88FG4 And if you want to get more informed on what our government is doing (or not doing right now), take a look at https://lnkd.in/efkHB3rY

Leaving the Armed Forces is a big decision. It changes the direction of your career, where you live, who you work with, friendship groups and your family's needs too - it's a whole life change. So now imagine that this change is forced upon you - that it's not your decision - that leaving the Armed Forces is not through choice, but is due to injury, illness and deeper battles. It is an incredibly stressful and uncertain time. While navigating a new time in their life - while trying to come to terms with injury and/or illness - they also have to make a new life for themselves. Understandably this is a time when Veterans need support. And this is where the Ski-habilitation week can be so beneficial. It is a chance to connect with other Veterans in a similar situation. A time to regroup and start on a fresh journey, a journey of support, with access to those who know, those who understand and a support network to a more positive future. https://lnkd.in/ebr7cFKH To donate- Text VETERANS to 70470 to donate £10 Or VETERANS20 to donate £20

Saying you're Veteran Friendly as an employer is about more than just hiring a few veterans for street credit. It's recognizing their exceptional skills that align with your needs. But is that enough? I believe companies should support military/veteran non-profits, too! If you're not matching donations to mil-vet nonprofits made by your employees within your corporate matching program, are you truly supporting military/veterans or just your organizational needs with skilled military/veteran talent? Something to think about. Do more. Be better. Match. #hvvtf #hiringveterans #milvetnonprofitgiving #supportourtroops #veteranfriendly #giveback

NCUA Approves Expansion of “Qualified Charity” to Veterans Organizations Earlier this year, Defense Credit Union Council (DCUC) and NAFCU (National Association of Federally-Insured Credit Unions) sent a joint letter to the NCUA Board. In the letter, we asked the NCUA to amend the definition of a “qualified charity” as it relates to Charitable Donation Accounts (CDAs) in Part 721.3 of NCUA regulations to include 501(c)(19) veterans’ organizations. Today, our efforts were a great success! The NCUA's decision to grant this revision will not only lessen previous restrictions defense credit unions faced when contributing to veterans' organizations but will also provide all credit unions with more opportunity to better serve their veteran members and communities! DCUC will continue working with each of our member credit unions alongside other veteran service organizations when advocating for the financial prosperity of our Nation's veterans. Lastly, DCUC would like to thank NAFCU for their help in drafting several joint letters, and for their consistent advocacy efforts, along with Abound Credit Union, TruStage, the National Credit Union Foundation (NCUF), and the Credit Union National Association (CUNA). We also want to thank the NCUA Board and staff for making this possible. #veterans #veterancommunity #veteranssupportingveterans #militarycommunity #military
