I recently saw Whitney White's brilliant production of By the Queen. During the performance, we "met" three versions of Queen Margaret - her younger self (teens / 20s), her mid-life self (30s-40s), and her elder self (50+), and they were able to interact with each other across time and space and ask each others questions about choices made during her lifespan. The elder Margaret had explored and made peace with all past selves and was living from a place of contentment and joy.   Similarly, between my excellent therapist and my executive coach, I've recently been able to engage with different versions of myself (past and future) to better inform the questions I am asking myself at present. I offer these to you as an invitation and hope they are as supportive to you as they have been to me:   〰 If you met yourself 15-20 years from now, who would show up at the door? What would they be wearing? Doing? What would that person say about the life they have led to date? How do they show up to life? What have they learned? 〰 What stories from the past 5,10,15,20 years do you need to name and claim, even if only to yourself, to accept your past? 〰 What is one small action you can commit to for the remainder of the year that might change the trajectory of the rest of your life?   🔸 What other questions are you asking yourself so that you can live a life of deeper purpose, meaning, and impact? #storytelling A retiring goldsmith of a kingdom told the king that his sons would take over. The queen compelled the king to test both the sons on their capabilities, before investing. The goldsmith didn’t want to split his sons. Hence he made both to design identical jewelry pieces and sent it to the queen, often. Despite the same  design and value, the queen always chose the box of the elder son. After 6 months she asked the king to appoint the elder son as her goldsmith. The curious king asked the queen why she chose the elder son despite there being no differences in their skills and craft. The queen said:  “𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘣𝘰𝘹𝘦𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘦𝘭𝘥𝘦𝘳 𝘴𝘰𝘯 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘰𝘯𝘭𝘺 𝘩𝘢𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘫𝘦𝘸𝘦𝘭𝘳𝘺. Another long overdue shout out to Anil for a very engaging and informative presentation on Presentations and for the assistance with mine. The session was a good reminder that, whether we realize it or not, our personal credibility is influenced by our ability to deliver effective and engaging presentations (not to mention: achieving the intended presentation/ meeting goals). Too often, we use PowerPoint as a document - what should be a handout rather than visual aid to support you, as the presenter. It distracts and works against you, rather than for you. I highly recommend engaging with Anil to help you prepare and deliver an effective presentation. Your audience and self will thank you for it :) #presentations #publicspeaking

P.S. Correct view of the nobility In Polish, a Nobleman is called a "Szlachcic" and a Noblewoman a "Szlachcianka". In the past, a misconception* led to the mistranslation of "Szlachta". * (For example: "Szlachta" as "Gentry" or something similar, when translated in to other languages..). The Red Queen Effect in business is especially interesting to me. In the explanation, a scene from Alice in Wonderland is referenced where Alice encounters living chess pieces and states to the Red Queen, "Well, in our country, you'd generally get to somewhere else – if you ran very fast for a long time, as we've been doing." The Red Queen replies, "Now, here, you see, it takes all the running you can do, to keep in the same place. If you want to get somewhere else, you must run at least twice as fast as that!" (p 513-514). In most businesses, the effort required to keep pace is enormous; this is because all other organizations are making the same efforts to move their businesses forward; therefore, to move your business ahead, you have to move twice as fast or do twice as much as every other company in the respective market segment.

Positioned at the center, her scope expands to an impressive 27 squares. Without her, the king is vulnerable, at greater risk of defeat. Interestingly, research suggests that widows tend to live longer than widowers. Could it be that the queen's influence extends beyond the chessboard? To Men: Just as in chess, in life, your queen has the potential to make your life more secure. Have you noticed that the most impactful men often have supportive and empowered partners by their side? Your queen, when empowered and placed at the center, can enhance your life in ways you never imagined. Invest in her, develop her, and watch as she helps you navigate life's challenges. To Women: When you're given a position of power, use it to maximize the potential of your king. Remember, all that is deposited in you is for him. Why Are We Envious? At the very root of envy is comparison. The core issue for an envious person is how they measure up against others, because they judge their self-worth based on comparisons. In the story of Snow White, the Evil Queen constantly asks her magic mirror if she’s the most beautiful woman. As long as the mirror says she is, she's happy. But when the mirror says Snow White is the most beautiful, the Queen becomes insanely jealous and furious. The Queen’s self-worth depends on being the most beautiful, and she can't stand being second best. She doesn't just want to be beautiful; she needs to be the most beautiful. Her sense of self-worth and value is based on outshining everyone else. The idea of someone surpassing her is unacceptable and provokes insane jealousy. The strategy of envy is not just to get something for self, but to take down the person we envy. Envy’s view of the world is essentially me-versus-you. If you are “up here” and I am “down here”, there’s only two ways I can get on the same level with you. I can either raise myself up, but that’s a lot of work. Or I knock you down, which is a whole lot easier. Sometimes envy involves what we think about, sometimes it’s how we feel about others, and sometimes it’s what we say and what we do. Envy feels upset at the talents, successes, or good fortune of others. Envy feels competitive and sees others as rivals. Envy takes pleasure in other people’s problems or difficulties. Envy assumes the worst about others and may even make false accusations against them.
