Sometimes, we can be rigid when it comes to our identities. We easily get stuck believing that certain things we do are non-negotiable aspects of who we are, such as our careers, relationships, and the roles we play in our lives. But the world is always changing, and we need to be able to change with it. I couldn't agree more. I have two main strategies that I leverage to not get too wrapped in our own narratives: -Make sure you are interrogating your limiting beliefs. When you hear yourself telling yourself a certain story, make sure to follow up with a few questions. Is it true? How is it NOT true? Find evidence of where it is not true -The power of the word "yet". When I hear myself saying "I can't do X" or "I'd never do Y" I try and reframe it as "I can't do X YET" to give myself that chance to rewrite that narrative

One of the keys to creating change is letting go of identities that hold you back! If you declare yourself "bad at excel," creating your own spreadsheets is going to seem impossible. If you deem yourself "not touchy-feely" you'll have a hard time becoming a more personable leader.

I love the idea, and reminds me of the storytelling exercise of the "old story" and the "new story" that we do in co-active coaching, which as you suggest Susan David, Ph.D. it helps us to let go of the narratives that no longer serve us looking forward to read the newsletter 😊 thanks!

You will behave into the way you see yourself. You can change your self-image simply by idenitfying and changing the stories that drive your life.

Sometimes we do get stuck in one identity yes. What's beautiful about queerness and evolving gender identity is that you learn to embrace your identity as a feeling much more than a fixed image. Thank you for your wise words. 💛🙏🏽☀️

It would also be nice to remind ourselves of that about others. They will not always be that person we remember, they are allowed to evolve too. I guess, if they HAVE to. 😅

A great read Susan David, Ph.D. Thank you. As a recovering perfectionist, I found your final statement 'rather than attempting to reach the final draft of ourselves, we should find the courage to keep revising' very freeing.
