Here’s why women are sick of not being taken seriously:
Too often, when a woman makes a huge, record breaking achievement, it’s belittled.
My TikTok FYP has been FULL of people talking about Jo Koy at the Golden Globes.
When Barbie is compared to Oppenheimer, he compares the films starting by (rightly) singing Oppenheimers praises, but Barbie?
"A film about a plastic doll with big b**bies."
You’re kidding?
Tell me you didn’t get the film, without telling me You. Didn’t. Get. The. Film.
Despite the fact that it was record breaking, it was still entirely belittled with the entire purpose being lost.
And then.. to top it off. Let’s make a pop at Taylor Swift.
Now, I’m no Swiftie, but I know a record breaking self made billionaire when I see one.
She was there because she made a film about the Eras tour, a tour that has broken multiple world records.
But she was again, belittled to a joke about the fact she’s dating an NFL player.
Now before you take a pop at me, and say ‘Oh Jen you’re being a snowflake”
There are SO MANY other jokes that could have been made that would have got a laugh.
These didn’t. They weren’t funny.
Take a poke at them, you can make jokes about the barbie film, or Taylor Swift.
But don’t belittle them to be about:
1️⃣ Something they aren’t about.
2️⃣ Their boyfriend in ignorance of the reason they're there in the first place.
It’s a theme that’s mirrored in business, women so often aren’t taken seriously, their male counterparts are being asked the ’technical questions’, or they're met with a negative bias.
Let’s maybe stop that in 2024, yeah?
Do. Better.
