🌟 Celebrating Educational Empowerment! 🎓✨ Clemson University secures a grant from the Spencer Foundation for groundbreaking research led by Professor Kristen Duncan. The study delves into the vital relationship between Black teachers and their students, exploring how current events, especially those involving race, are discussed in the classroom. Education is the key to understanding, and initiatives like these pave the way for a brighter future. 👩🏫📚 Another University that has benefitted from the grant program is Delaware State University receives a $1.75 million grant from the Longwood Foundation to enhance its nursing program. This three-year grant supports the expansion of facilities, including a Clinical Simulation Lab and a Rehabilitation Center. Additionally, a Nursing Summer Pilot Program aims to ease the transition for incoming pre-nursing majors. Investing in education, especially in critical fields like nursing, is a powerful step towards a healthier tomorrow. 💉👨⚕️ This is encouraging and a good start of the year. GOOD RIDDANCE AND TAKE YOUR MARXISTS WITH YOU! Pro-Marxist classes (such as English 308 MARXISM AND LITERARY THEORY) are taught by self-proclaimed Marxists (such as Alys Eve Weinbaum) are a major part of UW. “Marxists at UW” is a registered student organization. Marxist signs frequently appear around the campus. Marxism is a cult of hate espousing “class warfare” and “dictatorship of the proletariat”. It is responsible for 200 million deaths in the 20th century! It has been discredited by total economic failure (in Marxist Cuba today the average MONTHLY salary of a worker is $30-40 dollars U.S.!). UW should not hire Marxists to teach Marxism for the same reasons they should not hire Nazis to teach Nazism. Hate should have no home at UW! 😖

𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐃𝐨 𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐁𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐚 𝐕𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐧? I just heard the news that The University of Southern California has cancelled a student's graduation speech. The student, Asna Tabassum, had been nominated as this years’ valedictorian, and then her speech got cancelled by the university provost, which as I understand has no precedent at USC. It’s worth considering how do you become a valedictorian in the first place. 🦄 You have to consistently come top of your class across all subjects.  🛎 Usually, you have to be nominated by the majority of your professors. 🚀 You have to excel both in intellectual and social skills. 👯  You have to have a track record of excellent community impact. I’m assuming that the University of Southern California ensures that its valedictorians are chosen after careful consideration of all of the above. Now, I’m no provost or president, just a humble politics teacher, so perhaps I do not understand what is required by the realpolitik of a flagship US university. However, from a strictly pedagogical standpoint, cancelling valedictorian's speech precisely BECAUSE she has political views and BECAUSE she has consistently demonstrated strong moral values and judgement – including about what is currently happening in Gaza -  is just appalling. I would personally be ashamed to cancel a student’s class presentation because of that, let alone a speech of a student who has demonstrated stellar skills all round. The justification offered by Mr. Andrew Guzman, the provost and senior vice-president for academic affairs, is even more symptomatic. According to him, the decision was mandated by "campus security and safety". The vice-president of a leading university considers an anti-war valedictorian a security threat. Being anti-war is seen as a security threat. Let that sink in. Below, I attach the excellent statement from Ms Tabassum - it's really worth reading.

Delaware State University (DSU or Del State) is a public land-grant research HBCU in Dover. DSU has two satellite campuses, one in Wilmington and one in Georgetown. The university encompasses four colleges and a diverse population of undergraduate and advanced-degree students. DSU is classified among “R2: Doctoral Universities – High research activity”. The Delaware College for Colored Students was established on May 15, 1891, by the Delaware General Assembly. The name was changed to the State College for Colored Students by state legislative action in 1893 to eliminate confusion with Delaware College, which was attended by whites in Newark. It was first awarded degrees in 1898. Middle States Commission on Higher Education awarded the college provisional accreditation. Three years later, the institution became Delaware State College by legislative action. The institution changed its name to Delaware State University. DSU is one of the only HBCU to have a no-smoking policy. In 2015 the university began phasing out smoking on campus by restricting it to four designated areas and providing educational resources on smoking cessation tools and programs. In August 2015 it implemented a completely tobacco-free policy. In 2017, the university received the ACAS Health Leadership Award in recognition of its efforts. The award was jointly presented by the Public Health Service Officers Foundation for the Advancement of Public Health, the Truth Initiative, Arizonans Concerned About Smoking, and the Arizona NAACP. In July 2020, it was announced that DSU will officially acquire Wesley College. Concordia St. Paul’s growth over recent years through CSP and CSP Global has positioned CSP as a leader in Lutheran higher education. As of this fall, CSP is now the second-largest Lutheran university in America and continues to be the second-largest private university (all affiliations) in Minnesota. As one of six institutions of the Concordia University System (CUS), CSP is proud to be an agency of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS). Together, these universities share a vibrant Lutheran identity as their foundational principle and prepare students for careers in the church and society. A report from the 2022-23 academic year shows that CUS institutions served nearly 31,000 unique students across the country. In that report, Concordia St. Paul served just under 7,500 students. I really appreciate Anselm House executive director Bryan Bademan's piece here, outlining Anselm House's "third way" model of Christian engagement with mainstream university life. The campus ministry model and the Christian college model, he writes, "share one striking thing in common: they are both largely peripheral to the life and work of the modern public research university; you might say they leave the mainstream university alone. Christian colleges are often worlds away from major universities, both figuratively and literally, while campus ministries serve the personal faith lives of students but rarely engage with graduate students, faculty, or the academic missions of universities themselves. Friends, this situation has had tragic consequences, as it’s contributed to a widening divide between faith and knowledge in our universities, churches, and lives." Read the entire piece below!
