Humanizing Strategy | Helping social profit leaders navigate change through participatory planning that aligns their team, improves morale, and helps everyone buy in to the goals of the organization.
This is my 5th book from the Hasso Plattner Institute of Design at Stanford ( d.school ) publication series, and once again, I'm far from disappointed! I started reading this on Saturday and not onyl have I finished it, but I've had three conversations with colleagues so far and I think it warrants a short review: THIS IS NOT A SELF-HELP BOOK: 🎁 Firstly, it's important to clarify that this is not a self-help book – a genre I usually adore. The reason I emphasize this is because self-help books often neglect the underlying societal and political structures that perpetuate inequality, allowing only a small fraction to thrive in opulence. 🎁 This has always been a personal gripe of mine with the self-help genre; they tend to propagate the idea that sheer hard work and a stroke of luck are the keys to success. 🎁 While there's some truth in this, it overlooks the fact that systemic barriers can impede access to opportunities for many. 🎁 What sets this book apart is its acknowledgment of these systemic issues. It operates on the premise that systems are built by people, and altering these systems requires a collective effort to infuse creativity into the process of change! THIS IS NOT A BOOK ABOUT MAKING MONEY DOIN WHAT YOU LOVE! 🎁 This book shifts focus from the conventional narrative of making money through passion. While I do value insights on monetizing passions, my definition of success extends beyond financial gains. 🎁 This isn't about claiming a moral high ground; rather, it's about recognizing that wealth doesn't necessarily equate to a life rich in value. The book delves into how creativity and dedication can drive societal and global transformation. 🎁It's about charting your own course, leading a fulfilling life, and contributing to the changes you wish to see in the world. This is about more than just personal gain; it's about using our capabilities to foster positive change in the world. Often, I find myself asking myself, 'Manal, what is your gift, and how can you share it with the world?' If you find yourself asking a similar question, you'll find this guide incredibly helpful. #creativity #bookreview #change
